like i say in the title. Which is the true story in Fighter in the wind??
i already read view article about sosai but some is different. like why he want to train far from civilization is because of his trainer(who i assume that he is master So Nei Chu) died slaughtered by a yakuza. is it true?? can anybody give me link to the best source about sosai`s biography? -osu- TQ |

So Nei Chu was not killed by the Yakuza. He moved to korea and became a monk (he was always very religious), never to be heard of again. He did this after Oyama returned from his mountain training.
Fighter in the wind is FAR from historically accurate.

Sonny Chiba, once a student of Sosai, played the role of Sosai Oyama in three of Sosai's biographical movies.
"Kenka Karate Kyokushin Ken" (Karate Bullfighter) "Kenka Karate Kyokushin Burai Ken" (Karate Bearfighter) "Karate Baka Ichidai" (Karate for life) In 2003, Shihan Maki Hisao (he used to be the Sohonbu Shihandai, and he is also the younger brother of Kajiwara Ikki) also played Sosai Oyama in a movie about the Kajiwara Brothers. I will say these are good movies, but please do not take everything you see as the truth. Movies are afterall movies. Dear Martin H, I have not heard of Shihan So Nei Chu becoming a monk but maybe you have more information about him. 10 years ago an interview with Shihan So Nei Chu was published in "Gekkan Karate-do" (I do not know when this interview was done as I have not read this interview) and I think in the interview, he talked about the training that Sosai did before he went to America and also his conversation with Sosai after he returned to Japan. OSU!

Dear goldberg,
For the several Sosai movies of Chiba I think they are all available in English subtitles in amazon.com and other places. As for the movie of Kajiwara Brothers just search B000FHIC8K in amazon.co.jp. No english subtitles for this one I think. OSU!

I agree with Kakatootoshi about the movies are overall. Also about the movies with Chiba. I saw all of them and i remmeber in the end of 80s Sosai said "this is very close of my life" in an interview by French Magazine.
About the "Fighter in the wind", i dont think so... They put the person of Oyama as a miserable during all the time... |

i recently watched the chiba movies.
they were movies. they're made for entertainment value. they're not documentaries. sosai kills a shit load of guys in them and theres always some bad dude at the end that he has to fight. (the end of the last one had a scene straight out of enter the dragon). |

I have a book of Sosai,
He said that there was someone who played him in some movies he said that he did not know the actor personally and that he was a student of a student of his. but i dont know if he was talking about Chiba.

Dear goldberg2310,
The last movie is mainly about Kajiwara Brothers so do not expect too much Sosai in it. Kajiwara Ikki (older Kajiwara) is an icon in Japanese manga. Besides "Karate Baka Ichidai", he has other very successful manga like "Kyojin no Hoshi" and "Ai to Makoto". But it was also because of "Karate Baka Ichidai" that he and Sosai developed disagreements and they began drifting apart. In his last unfinished work "Otoko no Seiza" Kajiwara said he would reveal what happened between him and Sosai (a character with his real name in the manga), but he died before the story reached there. His brother (Maki Hisao Shihan) was asked to finished the story but he refused. OSU!

I'm still trying to research the 1954 fight that Sosai reportedly had in Thailand. There was this fighter reportedly named "Black Cobra" that Sosai was able to knock out. Anyone have any info on this?

This post reminds me of the story that we where told about Sensei Buck.
He was a cop in San Francisco, CA. and worked the docks {very tough area of town} and rode the back of the paddy wagon. One night {as the story was told to use} he was answering a call to a fight at a bar on the docks. As Sensei Buck and the other cops where breaking up the fight one of the guys swung a tire iron {back then cars had a tire iron to use as a handle for the jack and to loosen the lugs, it was about 20" long and made from steel 1/2" rod and L shaped}. The man hit Buck between the neck and the top shoulder. It was said to sever the shoulderfrom the body, at that point Sensei Buck turned and punch him in the head... the man is said to die days later from a brain hemorrhage!!! *****Now, I do not know how true this story is, all I can say is that we knew Buck was on full time disability and he never wore a gi when he came to our dojo. He would come about once a year or so, and would teach us in street clothing everytime. As young boys we never asked him about the story, we where just to scared to ask him!!! |
