Crazy training
I doubt this training makes you a better fighter, but if you dont break your neck, I'm sure it would go a long way in developing Kyokushin spirit!

Great Video. I also heard that the drop out rate was high but then Kyokushin training that isnt as hardcore as that will make people drop out.

I would have given it my best try to do that kind of training, but I think that I would have been the one in the video that was falling over themselves. Wow! I'm just glad that there aren't any waterfalls like that near my Dojo.

Oh yeah Supergroup7- I have done plenty of falling about. I must confess, we haven't done exactly this stuff on camp, but other than the ropes up the waterfall, we have come pretty close. (yes, even the hanging upside down with somebody using you as a punching-bag).
They say that karate teaches you humility. This kind of activity certainly teaches you that everybody has their limits. Now for really crazy...has anybody seen the move "God-Hand" (or somethign like that). It's is definitely crazy..It follows a few of the fighters at one of the early world tournaments. It shows them doing absolutely NUTTY things like....hammering a nail into a piece of wood with their forehead (I kid you not), being driven over by a bus loaded with friends, and then, for good measure, jumping up and kicking the bus.... Now THAT is crazy old kyokushin. I remember watching that video when I was about a 6th kyu, and thinking OMG what have I got myself into...these people are NUTS. AFter that video, the youtube one looks tame....

I've read in a book that training in the winter time was a means of purification or cleansing related to some religious event.

These videos make me think Sosai was building up a private army. If I was the Prime Minister of Japan back then I'd be very concerned. Wow!

Dear smoothsake,
I think Sato Eisaku and Miki Takeo were high ranking members of IKO when it was founded. And I have also seen pictures of Sosai taken with Tanaka Kakuei. OSU!

Just to set the record straight, by "high ranking members" I do not mean Shibucho or Shihan. Sato Eisaku was the "Kaicho" and others were like Komon or Sodanyaku. And I think Takeshita Noburu was a honorary Godan. OSU!
