Ushi deshi obi
Hi!
Anyone familiar whit an ushi deshi obi? The kanji on the obi off an ushi deshi is a bit diffrent as the one off a soto deshi. I think the end off the kyokushin kanji is a bit diffrent. I saw sihan tabata whit an other obi as the one Sihan Shichinohe had. An Ukraine sensei told me that. Does anyone know more about it? Best regards, |

Osu Sublimo,
I know Tabata Shihan was uchi desi for several years (7 or so) and Shichinohe Shihan was soto desi (student living outside the dojo comming in for training). I havent heard about this being a distinction that is indicated on the obi. It should all read "International Karate organisation kyokushinkai" or "kyokushinkaikan". There is more than one way of writing this, Union probably has their own specification, IFK uses Internationla Federation of Karate, which is writen the same as international karate organisation (IKO), since i dont read or speak japanese (yet) i have to trust on the people who told me this to be accurate. Isami (who makes the obi`s in japan, mostly) does have different ways of embroidering them, there are already several different machines that do it, and then they have people who can do it by hand. Safe to say is that this will result in small differances.... Kyokushin Union also embroids the name of their Dangrade institution on the inside of yondan and above obi`s when you take the grading with them. Anyone else heard anything before about the differances in obi`s for soto- and uchi desi`s..... Osu Ksan

Oh My goodness..why would you want to buy a new belt? (Unless you are a coloured belt who has just been promoted, and even then, doesn't your sensei usually deals with this...) ..

I'm afraid I can't help with that one. I have never bought a belt outside of Australia, and the belts I have from Japan were ordered for me by my Sensei. I have just been and had a look at my most recent belt, and there is nothing on it to indicate who made it...Sorry can't help.

Thanks for your reply. I just heard it from a Ukrain sensei. He said there is written kyokushinkaikan but maybe cause it is uchi deshi they have a little diffrence on the end cause they live inside or something like that... Just curiouse if any one noticed or know more about it! Osu |

If you are not part of an IKO isami will sell you a obi...
The obi will say Kokusdai Karatedo Renmei Kyokushin Kaikan. The kanji of Kyokushinkaikan in differnet know unlike it was years past (kanji as on gi) at the tip of the belt. Also the belt patch now says isami as it didn't years ago as well. The quality of the belt is fine, not as stiff as of belt brands mentioned, but good, just the cost is a bit high... Also if you are getting bars on the belt go for the complete wrap more money better quality Their belts will be a bit bigger than other belts, but don't order next size down or it will be to short unless the belt you have now (lets say it is a size 5) and it is a bit big on you then it would be Ok MAYBE to order a size 4 isami.... ***The belt code F455 and comes with fore mentioned embroidering, name and rank is extra... |

I order F700 (50 MM wide, instead of the 42 MM). The F700 is embroidered first and then stitched up (so no letters on the back). Also use the wraparound dangrade lines on the obi`s, like jap man says, those lines are much better quality. The obi is very hard and almost doesnt bend, but after a few very sweaty training sessions it goes exactly into place.
