i still practice karate, i havent left my dojo, i still train regulary, a comment was elft saying i have nothing to aim for, well my persuistance and commitment has got me this far and my target for the moment is to just get better and better because im not perfect and im training hard to try and work my way through the ranks. I didnt go from a kyu grade to 3rd dan in 18 months. It was not the law on any dan grade changed it was a law changed so that people under the age of 18 could grade to 3rd dan. I didnt drop out of school as one person said, i left school at the end of my gcse's gaining 11 a-c's. I left school to gain some life experience and go out into the working world, until i was old enough to join the police. I really appreciate all comments and take everything on board with the greatest amount of respect. i worked hard to get to where i am today and karate is the biggest thing in my life. I graded with 3 other men and completed the exact same grading as the over 18's and proved that i have the capabilities and heart to achieve a 3rd dan. To anyone that says my techniques are bad i believe thats just stabs at me for not likeing what i achieved. I dont mind any sort of criticism or comments aslong as its not just spite. so on an ending note thankyou to everyone for all of the comments and critism and i will continue to train hard. if anyone has anything they would like to ask me i'll try and come on here more regrulary. |

Well said young man. It's how you feel about yourself and your training that really counts. Other peoples opinions are just that - opinions. Gary

Regarding this thread though: If your grading was the same as that of the adults, then yours is an achievement. Not being familiar with your system though, could you tell us what the test involved, and what the requirements are for Dan grades in your system? Osu!

Thank you for commenting Miv, nice to hear you're still training I was very disappointed by what I heard as you would imagine - I think in the main the points raised in the thread were generic and lets face it mostly from a Kyokushin point of view and not a personal attack, some were, and I apologies for using you as an example in this way but hey it made the news!
As I said early on if you were no good I'd never have bothered as there would not have been a debate - the fact that you're clearly well trained help to raise a lot of interesting points. It would be great to hear your view btw, do you feel like you'd have quit or sought out another style if you'd had to wait to grade for example? No one said you'd reached 3rd Dan in 18 months - I think I actually said you'd been training for 6 years? The post that mentioned 18 months was from 1st Kyu to 3rd Dan, in Kyokushin this would take at least 6 years and normally it takes 5-6 years to get here, again this is more of a generic style vs style debatable point rather than one aimed at belittling your achievement. In Kyokushin the highest grade you actually grade for is 3rd Kyu is this the same for you and if so what are your aims? Other than the same as most of us: to master the unmasterable . You're fairly local as I understand and we have some open knockdown tournaments (and training sessions) if you're interested, feel free to PM me for details. OSU! Thanks for joining K4L - I hope is was not only to answer this question as I feel someone with your unique experience will have an interesting view point.

Tmd - I suspect you meant to say 3rd Dan here but this does actually vary from organisation to organisation as far as I know.

I must agree that we do discuss most here from a kyokushin point of view...

TMD, although most kyokushin organizations still grade up to 3rd dan, I'm pretty sure a few organizations grade up to 4th. (cant remember which though)
