Experience of Youth
Osu!
We often like to go on as grizzled veterans on some level of conflict, but I was wondering how many of our members have either used their skills in self-defense as children, or had young Dojo members do the same? What can we learn from their experiences? Osu!

Sad to say that some had to use their karate.
All were succesful, and returned home to tell the story. The common theme was : calm state of mind, under extreme duress. We will train our hearts and bodies, for a firm unshaking spirit.

I would have to recieve their permission first.
Generally, one was a terror attack against a14 year old. The others were all civic violence related to youth habits.

I have a less serious, but a nice story, nonetheless.
When I was running my dojo, I had a rule with my school-age students...no karate at school..not ever. Consequence = ban from training. One night, one of the 13 year old boys came up to me at training, his eyes downcast, telling me, without looking me in the eye, that he had something he needed to tell me. He then proceeded to say goodbye, and thank me for all the training. I asked him what was going on, and he said that he had used his karate at school, and was therefore aware that I would refuse to teach him from then on. I asked him to tell me the story. He had just started at a new school, and had been accosted in the schoolyard by a group of bullies. The had him up against a wall, and were punching him. He said that he remembered what he had been taught, which was that if in a group situation like that, the biggest, strongest one comes within striking range, hit with everything you've got. he did. The biggest strongest kid hit the deck. The others ran away. I danced for joy on the inside, put on my sternest sensei face and told him that as he had behaved honourably, and told me himself without me having to hear from some other source, on this occasion I would only punish him with 100 push-ups. Which we all did with him....

Thanks, Romwolf. Good to know that the training was there for you, and that you have re-evaluated the situation since then. Osu!
