"Best" kyokushin book?
Hey,

I'm looking for ONE best overall book.
I want proper techniques, body alignment, katas/pinan, history, training ideas, different schools of kyokushin, etc

A tall order, so i'm hoping someone here will fill me in on which book might satisfy those needs to a high level. However, if i had to pick i'm more interesting in the techniques and such.

Osu!

Your request is a tough one, BlazinDave. With what you're looking for, I can't think of a single book that covers all those bases...

Well, how about a book that really focuses on proper technique and body alignment?

Osu!

As a guy with several shelves dedicated to Karate books, I'm going to give you a short list of interesting books. I don't think that any one of them has all the answers, but that's why I have a bunch of them, right?

In the order I yanked them from the shelf: (Oh, and see if your library has them, or will order them in. It's a good way to see the material before you choose what to buy.)

Note: Several of these are in Japanese, so I'll just provide the ISBN.

1) 4-01-071840-4
2) 4-89493-028-5
3) 4-7899-2051-8
4) 0-8069-8844-4

Good luck!

Osu!

My vote goes for Sosai's own This is Karate. It was my first glimpse into Kyokushin.

Dear friend, there are a lot of god Japanese books, but if you don’t know Japanese is really hard to fully understand by looking just the pictures…
I know a very god and complete book, from Shihan Armand Sancho, 5. º Dan (Hanshi Arneil group???):
• Karate Do Kyokushinkai (Volumen 1) – Técnica, Kata, aplicaciones y programa de grados. (315 pag.)
• Karate Do Kyokushinkai (Volumen 2) – Técnica superior, Kata, Kumite y defensa personal. (335 pag.)

I think you can order it from:
Editorial Alas
C/ Villarroel, 124 (08011 Barcelona) España
Apartado 36.274 (08080 Barcelona) España
E-mail: sala@editorial-alas.com / Editorial Alas

Regards and work hard,
OSU!

Hi there i don't know if it is book specific you want but certainly the Kyokushin Encyclopedia dvd's are pretty good for technique and position. I have used it as a reference quite a bit just to prompt my memory. I think they can be brought from a site called budovideos.com.

I think that needs to be modified to some Dutch people. I have Dutch family on both my mother and father's sides, and even some of my girl cousins are bigger than I am!

I do love my cheese though!

Dear Kakatootoshi,
Unhappily yes, the book is available only in Spanish…but is more understandable than Japanese, at least for a European or an American.
Anyway, I found the books very valuable and covering almost every aspect of Kyokushin Karate with a lot of great pictures (4.000 photos!), with a little but complete technical description, and no Kyokushin politics!
You may find a few variations on Kata (depends of the Organization a person belongs…), but doesn’t matter; there’s also a nice Bunkai interpretation for every move found in Kata. And many, many more!
A must to have!
Best regards and Osu!
