Senior visitors
Osu!
On Monday I had two senior visitors. Sensei Kimo Wall of the Okinawa Kodokan, and Sifu Liu Chang I, from Taiwan, head of the Feeding Crane system. Although we didn't get any time for the Kobudo practice with Kimo Sensei, I did spend quite some time with Liu Sifu. Very interesting stuff, and very close to the higher levels of Okinawan Goju Ryu. (And also very different to the other Crane system that I've seen and had a chance to work with.) Exclusively close quarter partner work (No, I didn't try the Kata. I'm slow enough at learning Kata over a period of years. One day would have been silly.), I did enjoy the use of elbows and shoulders both to press, and to strike. Because of the very different approaches, I can't say that I saw much similarity to Kyokushin at all. Still if any members are interested, there are two seminars left in the US. If you're in the area, it may be a good way to spend the weekend: OKINAWA* KODOKAN Osu!
