Well if there isn't any Ashihara or Enshin that anybody is aware of, does anybody know of a good knockdown karate dojo somewhere near Syracuse? I am going to find a karate dojo there, but recommendations from the people on this site would be very helpful.

How mature and open is this forum! It's called Kyokushin for life and yet NO ONE has taken offence to the fact that in this thread it is playing second (third?
) fiddle to Ashihara & Enshin, what a great place OSU! to all of us .PS: someone find this guy a dojo!!!

In my defense, I did start the thread to ask about different styles and would be very happy to hear about how great kyokushin is. Though I don't think you need to convince me. |

Seriously, I dont see how they could motivate that title. From what I hear it is more or less the same shotokan no-contact point karate it was developed from -with a few headbutts, eyepokes and so on thrown in into self defense training where it is never trained "live". It could be that Im wrong, I dont live in Poland which is basically the only place it is trained, but that is what it looks like to me. Doing no-contact point karate is not bad in itself, but it is not GOOD in my (and most other knockdown karate based guys) eyes either. I seem to remember hearing about the founder making some dodgy claims (something about his background that didnt check out, or if he claimed tsunami karate was the largest style in the world. Something like that. I dont remember), but nothing major. Small local style. Mostly shotokan with a few twists. Not bad, but nothing that stands out either.
