Smile Power Karate
I think this may come as a surprice for many of you.

Soke Dave Cook, founder of Tsu Shin Gen and early Kyokushin student has released his books Power Karate for free on his webbsite:

Tsu Shin Gen International

A lot of materials for those who want knowledge.

These are the best Kyokushin books - Period - I have had the 2nd 1 for 15 years and found it exceptionally useful, I have been searching for the 1st one for 5 years with no luck. It is a mark of a truly great martial artist that this information is being made available for free. Osu to Soke Cook. If he ever does a seminar or I was able to train under him I would jump at the chance.

I totaly agree with you. I was lucky to have him as my instruktor for many many years and I visited one of the Tsu Shin Gen camps two years ago and got both of the books as a present from Soke Cook. He even sign them and told me this is only for special people.

So I was really supriced that he gave me those books. Their could not be many left.

Normal left to right top to bottom.
On the bottom left corner, for the ones I've seen, there is a number system.

power karate was a remake in two parts of the original one book "kyokushin karate".
fantastic to see it online for free.

It will be a great resource -especially when we are discussing kihon and kata moves.

Oh wow i was actually looking to buy a book like this!

One question tho (because im new) I dont want to learn the wrong thing and i noticed on the website it was also talking about ashihara, kickboxing etc. Are these books Kyokushin only? As id hate to get mixed up when i have very little knowledge to seperate what i should and shouldnt be learning (like practising ashihara at home and thinking im practising kyokushin ><)

Osu!

As I understand those books are all kyokushin. But there could be some difference in some of the katas, I have seen that it depends what organisation you belong to.

I totaly agree with you Spirit. I also got the book and dvd with tsu shin gen and its very interesting. I also have had opportunity to practice this with Sensei Cook at the summercamp they had in sweden 2006.

He is a really good teacher and this days even a greater budoperson.

The book was first published way back when there was only One Kyokushin so it is 'standard' Kyokushin but the org you belong to now may have made some subtle changes since. In the second book you will find some superb info on fighting combinations and bag work, some of theses are deigned around 'full contact' rather than knockdown but this is in the only 'non Kyokushin' info I know of.

If you made this book the basis of your Kyokushin knowledge you'd not go far wrong.

I'm pleased to see that Soke Cook's decision to publicize parts of his two Power Karate books seem appreciated, the electronic world is giving us new ways of reaching out. I'll make sure Soke Cook is aware of this.

For you that actually have the book I can only advice you to take good care of them as Soke Cook have stated that there will be no new prints of them.

If you have any opinions regarding the Power Karate website feel free to state them, I constructed the website. It would be great to see how the viewers see the website and how we can improve it.

Thank you, most pressing matter is in fact changing the menu system which has proved to be somewhat hard to understand (press + sign to expand etc).

Baring in mind that all images are scans from the actual books limits what we can do with them. Preferably one would wish to control the layout and order of the images, as mentioned in a post above, but this task would be overwhelming.

The main Tsu Shin Gen International website contains a rather large gallery of Soke's personal images, some that never been published before. I mean, how many of you have seen the images from the self defense drill performed and the All Japan Championships?

After my initial post and reading on finding more positive posts about Soke Cook making this available online I spoke to Soke, he is very pleased and happy how this has been received.

There are more ideas growing in Soke's head, the positive reactions as well as understanding the importance of Internet only fuels his will to invest more time into publishing more of his work and extraordinary life within martial arts. This, however, will mostly be within his own system; Tsu Shin Gen.
