Welcome thaiboxer9. It will be interesting to hear some of your opinions on our sometimes opinionated Kyokushin thoughts. So I take it based on your more recent training you are more TKD... why the thai boxing reference in your ID?

Thank you for your warm welcome. Actually My recent training was Muay Thai. I've been training TKD since I was in Junior High School and I started training Muay Thai & MMA in University in SF. After finishing school I went back to Indonesia and because there is no Muay Thai school in My city, I'm currently training in a local boxing gym. Its sad that I can't train Muay Thai with the other but at least I'm doing it.

Hi, my name is Omid I am from IFK Kyokushin hope your well...
Kyokushin and Muay Thai have very close links through out our history... for eg. In the early stages of kyokushin we were really the only japanese Karate group that could challenge the awesome Thai fighters in the fighting days of Kyokushin warriors such as Tadashi Nakamura and the like, we learned about low kicks and knee strikes! Taking a lot from Thai fighters and there training, this is why there has been many a legend created from the historical reports of Muay Thai vs Kyokushin fights, this has not been lost as even modern day Thai fighters come from gyms with a kyokushin link.... such as Peter Aerts and Remy Bonjaski both very famous in the K-1 event although these fighters are Thai fighters their (dojo) lineage has Kyokushin links in its history..... Such as this is, you will always find many Kyokushin practitioners have a great deal of respect for Muay Thai. Keep training, All the best. Osu! www.kyokuacademy.co.uk |
