Osu - New member from Hobart, Tas
After my initial post I was directed here by ksan.
I first started training in Kyokushin in the late 60s/early 70s in Mildura, Vic and ended up with a green belt, although I'm sure the grading requirements were different back then. Unfortunately it was at this time I got a job/money/car and karate went by the wayside. Can still remember my green belt grading back then though, a weekend away at Renmark (SA), training in the Murray River, breaking 1/2 bricks with hand & foot. After a hiatus of around 25 years I recommenced training in 1994 after getting our daughter started. When the instructors found out I had done Kyokushin previously I had no chance! Graded for Shodan in 2000, the year of my 50th b'day. Unfortunately there have been a few issues preventing me from attempting Nidan in the period since then; bulged disc in the lower back & a broken neck as a result of a mountain bike accident in 2005. Have only recently got the 100% all clear from the latter, although I've still been training (& mountain biking). I train & instruct at the Hobart (Cambridge) dojo, as well as Huonville, Hobart PCYC & Kingston if needed. |
