Kyokushin newbie here
Hi, I did a bit of martial arts in my teens, some TKD, some Karate(more kata and less kumite oriented), some kung fu and more recently a couple classes of judo and wrestling, some bjj and some muay thai.
Anyways, for multiple reasons I chose to start kumite oriented karate. I am not there yet, as I am a bit confused(might have to do with politics...) Now I don't want to argue with anyone or do I pretend that anything is better than the other... but after my research, I've found out multiple websites that pretend to be the official kyokushin website(and there can't be more than one so it looks silly). The problem that I have is to find which kyokushin schools are legitimate or not. As a newbie, I have no idea. And I have familiarized myself with the history and the IKOs so I know a little bit of what is going on. Now like I said, I don't want to talk about politics, but if someone has a list of all kyokushin schools in the world that are legitimate, it would be great! I am located on the south shore of Montreal and was thinking of Karate Longueuil Inc. if anyone can tell me more about them. I also have other questions like how long usually it takes to pass belts in Kyokushin(and to attain black belt) if someone can tell me it would be great! Taimu-kaado o osu. |

Osu!
Welcome to the Forum! I hope we can answer many of your questions. I think you are aware from our Forum rules, political discussions are a no-go area, and we all choose to refrain from having them. While I do not believe that there is a single global Dojo resource, the one here on K4L is pretty darn good, and we can thank Kyokushin4Life for all his work on that. Canada - Kyokushin4life Regarding Dojo in Canada in general, and Quebec in particular, you are in luck. we have several members from that area as part of the Forum. I'm sure you will receive answers from them. Osu!

Go check out the dojo and meet with the sensei and students. If you get a good vibe consider jumping in and trying out a class. The federation means fairly little unless you are looking to compete on national/international stages or traveling the world and training in affiliated dojos.
Welcome to K4L. Say goodbye to boredom and productivity. |

Welcome to K4L, combatultime! As this intro thread has reached it's maximum posts, I will now lock it. Don't let that discourage you from posting in other sections of the board, though!
Osu! Nix
