I'd probably give Fuji-san (Mt. Fuji) a climb. Every trip I tell myself, this one will be the one where I commit two days to climb the famous mountain, but for whatever reason (girls, drinking, girls) I usually pass for the next trip.
Imagine how cool it would be to do some kata up on the top of Fuji-san... as a tribute to Sosai's months in the mountains. Osu! |

Only 10 days?
having done most of the tourist sites when I lived there, I think what I'd like to do most is re-visit my sensei's dojo and train... I'd make room for side trips to re-do some of the things I loved...hit an onsen or 2, wander around Kyoto for a couple of days (is Tani House still there?), hike my fave mountiains, hook up with my roshi and do some za-zen... but mostly, just train with Sensei and hang out with the guys afterward...those were some good times. N.B. : this is only in the very unlikely event that Mrs. Groucho does not accompany me...that would put a very different complexion on the trip...

If i had unlimited amount of money i would buy a traditional house there. I would be training at the Ishigeki Academy (with Francisco Filho, Glaube Feitosa, Ray Lechi Kurbanov, Sefo, Jason Vemoa and Fai Falamoe), at the Kigushi Dojo (with Takanori Gomi), and at the Killer Bee Gym (with Kid Yamamoto and his teamates). Aside from this i would love to visit all the ancient houses, temples, castles and gardens, the countryside and the beaches not to mention the city stores and so on.....

Yamato Kid walked right in front of me a couple months ago, when I was out at lunch...got out of his 2 door white Benz, with one of his kids....
He is a short guy, but looked good (in the sense that he is muscularly defined!! not that I was attracted to him!!!) vapor |

Himeji Castle is by far the most beautiful. Kumamoto Castle is also quite amazing. I've heard good things about Matsuyama too, but Himeji is the hands down most beautiful -- it is also in its original state having been left unscathed by the Allied bombings. If you want to see a castle and you only have time for one, this is the one.
