Pinan Sono Ni is my fave because I been did them for years - I been stuck with 7th Kyu for 7 years due to college and university. I practiced Pinan Sono Ni for my next exam, it was last March. My teachers don't correct my kata of Pinan Sono Ni yet cos I been practiced for years!!

My favourite has got to be Pinan Sono San. During my first year of training, I saw several blue-belts practising it before a lesson, and I remember thinking: "Beautiful. I'm SO learning that."
Also because it is both graceful and powerful at the same time. I also like Taikyoku Sono San. It's a kata I've done tons of times, and it still makes me go 'Oh, okay!' and find new things about it every now and then. Fantastic ![]() Osu! |

Iwould have to say that my preferred kata right now is equally divided between kanku and seinchin. Both for the forms themselves, the power, grace and velocity each require as well as the demanding physical aspects.

Osu!
You chose a couple of tough ones there, Zanshin. Very different style to each one. Is there something in each that you find particularly appealing? Osu!

After a year of doing it at least once a day I think my answer has now changed to Sanchin kata

Well Dent, I have been taught that Kanku is our signature kata and even though I have seen it done in many different ways from differing styles, in each expression it is still a beautiful and powerful kata. As for seinchin I particularly enjoy the kiba dachi stances that it employs and the hand techinques coupled with the use of ibuki. Its not the most fun when you are exhausted and yet that is when its best to do it, because by its very nature the kata (as all katas should) pushes you to places you wouldnt go normally.
