Thanks Rasor, would the order be different in different dojos? That's what i'm worried about.

It will also be different in each organisation e.g in the IFK Sokugi Taikyoku Sono Ichi, Sokugi Taikyoku Sono Ni and Sokugi Taikyoku Sono San are not practiced.
Maybe we should list the Katas required for each belt for each organisation.

nzproud, there should be some sort of syllabus book for your organisation/dojo. The kata list for the dojo i train at is completely different to RASor's kata list. I presume your list would be different too.....

The Pinan Ura katas are the ones that spin correct? I don't think we do those in the AKKO but the toher kata mentioned above we do in the AKKO

Besides the kata's that RASor listed ...
Bassi Dai, Kanku Dai & Sho, Seinchin, Sushiho, Garyu & Seipai Also tiakyoku sono Yon, Go & Roku... Our placement of kata's and where learned is al little different than how RASor listed, but I would think that all IKO's would be very close to each other. Many people in Kyokushin have not really learned the kata's and sadly most only do the kumite and think that is all that is in Kyokushin |

In Kyokushinkaikan IKO1 the standard is universal, i.e., all member Dojos (worldwide) must observe and follow the guidelines imposed by Honbu Japan - Kancho Matsui. In our case, Sensei requires the members to do a little more in Kata in order to maintain the quality of our Karate. Our promotion to Black Belt requires 20-man Kumite, not the usual 10 fights. Reason could be the volume of practitioners in the Philippines is not many. Honbu has at least 15 active members (senior belts & blackbelts) thus providing limited fight and training experience/exposure. There is also the objective of our sensei to train and develope strong fighters like the Japanese and Russian Fighters. We must keep a step ahead of the rest to keep up with International fighting standards. I will try to recover our Manual on the promotion standards imposed by Kyokushihkaikan IKO1 and upload it in this thread. BTW, the placement I made is very crude it is just to give an overview of where a belt would cover not necessarily all the Katas in the group. (Ex. White to Orange Belt: 3-Taikyokus and 3-Sokugis; Orange Belt to Stripe: All Katas of White to Orange with Pinan Sono Ichi and Pinan Sono Ni)... Osu. Last edited by RASor; 11-06-2006 at 02:14 AM. |

Yes 6 Taikyoku's
Oyama dropped the last three Taikyoku's and the three Tekki's along with Bassai Dai, Kanku Sho. Their are many things that are no longer used in Kyokushin today that was used back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's... |

is kanku-sho different from the kanku-sho taught in the shotokan style? the kanku-dai of shotokan is different from the kanku of kyokushin. is kanku of kyokushinkai the same as the kanku-dai of shotokan?
