Choice of kata in inter-style competitions
Anybody have experience in choice of kata in interstyle tournaments. I have competed in these a few times, because kyokushin never used to have kata tourneys. I eventually learned to choose kata that were relatively unique to kyokushin, because invariably the judges from shotokan would judge a shotokan kata by shotokan standards, goju likewise etc. So eventually, I chose ones that I didn't think any of them would have.
Tsuki-no was one of my favourites for this reason - and the big deep stances, and powerful movements can be impressive to the uninitiated. (There is also a tendency for people to assume that any kata they don't know must be very, very advanced). So even as a yudansha, I would trot out Tsuki-no kata, and it would usually score well. Anyone else got any tips on what to choose for competitions? ![]()

I have never competed in an Interstyle competition but I do like Saiha and Tsuki and Pinan Go for competition.

Saifa is one of my favorite katas. The only other katas that I can think of that are not shotokan kata are Sokugi katas?
