Taikeyoku Kata not part of Union Syllabus?
Hi,
I had a visitor drop by for a class who was in town for a few days from China who traines at a Kyokushin Union dojo in China and he had never done the Taikeyoku kata's or seen them before. They start right away with the Pinan's and don't do Taikeyoku kata. Has anyone ever heard of this before? This is the first that I have encountered, and I am curious as to the thought/reasoning behind this. Do any other groups or organizations do this as well? Thanks. |

Taikyoku means basic or training exercise doesn't it? I use them as standard and many variations to teach new techniques with movement. How can you have a karate system without them?

I also thought it very strange, and a good friend of mine who is part of the Union teaches them at his school, but he came from another IKO originally before moving to Canada so I wasn't sure.
Perhaps it is just this one Dojo in China that forgoes them? I have trouble understanding teaching the Pinans without learning the Taikeyoku first though as I always viewed them as a progression. |
