Noda was not a professional sumo wrestler, just a member of the sumo club at the univerisity. He was doing okay in sumo.

Noda on left. He was the champion of the previous year (individual event of west japan student sumo tournament.)
He is from the honbu dojo of seidokaikan and came third in this year's all-japan weight tournament (heavyweight division).

Has K-1 lost the plot? This is strange stuff coming from a sporting discipline that, to some extent, built its reputation on the death of one of its star fighters, Andy Hug, who succumbed to leukemia six years ago. And K-1 probably doesn’t help its own cause by using its oldest fighter as the star of its commercial.

What do you think? Why are they using a veteran like Hoost? Are there no good newcomers?

There are, but the newcomers dont sell tickets like Hoost. And when all is said and done, k-1 is a commercial corporation more interested in making a quick profit for its stockholders than in doing what is good for the future of the sport.
They will drag out "seat filling" names no matter how "has been" they are as long as they can profit from it in the short run.
If they could profit from it, and they could get away with it, they would put Andy Hugs Corpse in the ring.

K-1 is not realy a sport organization, but a sport-entertainment corporation.
Sadly Its just the nature of corporations. Their first and only purpose is to earn money for their owners and stockholders, while how they do it and how good a product they provide is of secondary concern. And in modern corporations, the profit must come in this quarter. "Long term planning" means planning at most a year ahead -if that.

Hoost is a legend and should have been allowed to retire with honor. He may still beat almost anyone in a single fight (if its a short fight), but he does not have the endurance to last a tournament.

Hongman Choi is pulled out of the event due to injury(caused by Jerome's low kicks) in his left leg.

In a recent interview, Hoost says he wants to fight Schilt in the semi-finals and Glaube in the final.
May his wish come true.

I don't like the way that Semmy fights, but it'll be good fight betwen him and jerome. I'd like to see jeronimo as winner. Also I think that the most exciting final fight would be betwen Fietosa And Jeronimo. And I would like feitosa to win.

That would be great to see Feitosa winning the all thing but i wouldn't mind if Hoost or LeBanner take the crown this year. They also deserve it.
