Semmy Schilt won by beating Peter Aerts in the final! Nobody thought that this would be the final! Bonjasky got kicked in the balls and was out for a long break. And a lot more! Just came back from the event here in Tokyo. Look forward to discuss this further with you tomorrow.

12/2 K-1 2006 GP Final Spoiler
Fight Report (against Peter Aerts)
1R Aerts fired low kicks in rapid succession. He was in high spirit after defeating Musashi, and also because of the cheering from his friend Ernest Hoost. After knocking down Rusland Karayev, Glaube was also in supreb condition. Glaube countered by left straight and right low kick. Just as Aerts moved in, Glaube's Brazilian Kick hit him in the temple and shook him. Glaube then used his left punch to apply pressure on Aerts but he countered with good low kicks and wait for a recovery. For sure Glaube was dominant in this round. 2R Glaube attacked with jab and right low kick while Aerts returned with right low kick and right straight. Glaube was still with the upper hand but Aerts also stood his ground with left and right hooks. A low kick followed by a left upper knocked Glaube down and the fight was ended. ![]() Post-fight (after losing to Peter Aerts) comment from Feitosa What do you feel? Glaube: I feel sorry. It is far from my hope. For the first match I knew my opponent had great speed so I had devised plans for that. In the second fight my condition was good though. I was thinking about fighting Remy so when Aerts came up I felt uneased. I think I won the first round, but he changed his tactics in the second. The fight was getting close-in and the winner was decided. He had good techniques. After being knocked down and trying to stand up, did you think you could continue? Glaube: A tough question. I could not concentrate and there was a pain in my head. Seeing my state, the referee stopped the fight. OSU!

Fight Report (against Ruslan Karayev)
1R The shorter Ruslan sed his speed well and hit Glaube with right straight and left hook. Glaube rocked Ruslan with middle and inner low kick. Ruslan returned with spinning back fist and spinning back kick, and controlled the pace of the fight. The calm Glaube returned with right low kick and hit his mark. A Brazilian Kick caught Ruslan at the back of the head and rocked him well. Glaube took the chance and rushed in with punches, and finally finished his job with a well-placed right hook. Ruslan stood up but his eyes were without focus. The referee stopped the fight and Feitosa went to the semi-finals. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dear Sonik,
Sorry I forgot. He won by KO in 2min47sec in Round 2. 1R Takahagi consectively fired low kicks. Sato used inner low kick and hit with left and right hooks. Takahagi used right hook and right upper. Sato left low kicked and punched 1-2-3-4. He kept pushing with right hook and low kick while Takahagi returned with right low. 2R Takahagi left high kicked. He also middle kicked and punched 1-2. Sato returned with right straight and pursued him to the Takahagi to the corner. Sato pressurized with right upper + hook. Takahagi tried to right hook but he was too slow and could just hit the air. Sato scored a down with a right hook+upper. A second down followed with the same trick. A right straight ended the fight. ![]() ![]() OSU!

Glaube came home with 15 grand.
![]() Tonite also marked the retirement of Ernesto Hoost. ![]() He was showered with bouquets of flowers from Fujiwara Norika (an actress and commentator for many fight shows), Mike Bernado, Jermone Lebanner, Branko Cikatic and Peter Aerts. Semmy Schilt also presented Hoost a pair of "Golden Gloves". Let's wish Hoost all the best for his new life off the ring! OSU!

I feel sad that Feitosa lost, although a loss to Aerts is not a disgrace, and I am very glad that he defeated Karaev so easily.
A BIG OSU to sensei (or is it shihan? I dont know his ashihara or seidokaikan grades) Schilt who successfully defended his title. Thanks for the info about Takumi Sato. The opening fights were not on the version Ive seen. How did Mitsugu Noda of seidokaikan do?

Thanks for the reports, everyone. Does anyone have info on the final?
I think Schilt is the first Karate-ka to win back to back K-1 GPs. |

Kurisu.
He is. Andy Hug won once -96 and Branco Cikatic once -93 (Branco was originaly tkd+shotokan, and then kickboxing from a muaythai+kyokushin gym). Other than that the K-1 winners have been Hoost (thaiboxing), Bonjasky (thaiboxing) and Peter Aerts (kickboxing) -who all have won more than once. But now we can add Semmy Shilt (Ashihara/seidokaikan) to the list :-)

Full review of the K-1 event in Tokyo
This is my review of the event:
More than fifty thousand people had gathered in the Tokyo Dome on December 2 to see the finals in the K-1 World GP 2006. A noisy arena, but the cheapest tickets for 4000 yen give a nice view from the gallery. They always have the same female announcer at the K1 here in Tokyo and her high pitched voice is not the highlight of the event. Still, I had a very good view of the big screen and it's allowed to bring your own beer inside. Now, the fights: Peter Aerts vs. MUSASHI Veteran Peter Aerts never gave MUSASHI a chance. KO in round one by the lumberjack. Jerome Le Banner vs. Semmy Schilt Frenchman JLB lost to Semmy Schilt and was out. I thought he would do better after beating the Korean giant Hong-Man Choi last time. Schilt is a big guy with his 211 centimetres (6'11") and I think that is how he in the end won this fight as well as the whole thing. His fighting sure is efficient but not very entertaining. Shorter Le Banner tried to get in close and Schilt wanted to keep him from doing it. Ernesto Hoost vs. Chalid "Die Faust" Arrab Hoost, "Mr Perfect" managed to win after an extra round. OK, he won this match, but after seeing him fight it was obvious that he couldn't win the whole GP. There was to much tripping and falling on his part. He should have retired before this tournament. Glaube Feitosa vs. Ruslan Karaev The Russian looked tough and started very aggressively against Feitosa. Schooled in Kyokushin karate where punches are not allowed to the head Feitosa is using the Kyokushin speciality of knocking out his opponent with a round kick. This only works if the timing is exact. The kick must just come out of nowhere. Feitosa is using what is called a "brazilian kick", a round kick so high that it literally comes from an above angel. If Glaube Feitosa has a secret technique then this is the one. KO in round one. The Russian was devastated and cried on his way out after the KO by head kick. Remy Bonjasky vs. Stefan Leko This was the scandal fight. A few seconds into the match Bonjasky was kicked in the groin and in great pain. It looked like an accident on Leko's part. How can this happen? Don't they wear groin protection? The fight was stopped to resume later and instead we got a Super fight so they would give Bonjasky time to rest. Unfortunately for him, the extra fight was quickly over: Superfight: Ray Sefo vs. Melvin Manhoef This fight was thrown in to give Bonjasky time to rest. Well, Sefo won by KO after 20 seconds in round one. So much for that! By now it felt like like the whole event was getting out of hand. Having 50 000 people sitting waiting watching a pause video with clouds is not good for business. This is supposed to be the number one martial art event in the world and at this point I didn't think that we had got our moneys worth. The match went on and Bonjasky got a second kick in the groin! Another accident when he blocked a spinning kick by lifting up his leg, but sure looked nasty. In spite of this, Bonjasky won the fight. This without any flying knee or other spectacular techniques. I felt cheated on this match. I really wanted to see Bonjasky fight and do his thing, and as things played out I didn't get that feeling. Sem Schilt vs Ernesto Hoost Now we are getting somewhere! This was all or nothing for Hoost, going up against the ruling champ Schilt. He did a lot better than the first fight and proved to be a solid and very experienced fighter. Hoost put up an impressive defence against the bigger Schilt. Much better balance and hit Schilt hard, but it wasn't enough to win. Glaube Feitosa vs Peter Aerts (Bonjaski is injured and can't fight, his replacement will be PETER AERTS) Peter Aerts saved the day at this event. This is one veteran who don't need to retire! K-1 is about giving a good fight and a good show and Aerts delivers on both accounts. After winning 84 fights Aerts has got this down to an exact science so much that he could probably win a fight with his eyes closed. Glaube Feitosa tried his high kicks with Aerts to no success. The secret technique of Peter Aerts is durability. He can take a beating. Just watch some high light clips and you will see that it takes more than one blow to knock out Aerts. None of the fighters in the GP this year can throw a high kick like Feitosa. Aerts took booth a round kick and a drop kick to the head without getting downed. In the end Feitosa fell to Aerts solid and technical style where it's all about take opportunity to what is available. Superfight: Badr Hari vs Paul Slowinski I think this was planned as the "odd" fight putting bad boy Hari in the ring. Known for taking the fight outside the ropes Hari did a nice and clean fight with a only a few spectacular techniques. A bit surprising that fighters like this can put on an as good if not better show than the big names. Final: SEMMY SCHILT vs PETER AERTS Schilt is younger and taller than Aerts and that made him a winner here. Frankly I think Schilt's fighting style is not very entertaining to watch. He is a thorough and careful fighter that don't take any unnecessary chances. And with his size he can afford it. Still this was a nail biter. Aerts was down in the second round and that is never a good sign. If a fighter has been down it is hard for them to get back in shape and win. Schilt won using his size and knees but Aerts gave everything. This was about more than the 400,000 dollar check. I also found a very good review here, with more details about the matches.

some info from (oYo) over at kakutougi. All cred to him.
Apparently Chalid broke his hand on Hoost head during the first round. He didnt exaclty fight his best after that. Remy got stopped by the doctor after the fight because he was constantly vomiting. Leko had stomac flue since a week before the event, and was in no shape to fight any more.. Glaube had a plan for all the regular fighters, but had not counted on _both_ Bonjasky and Leko getting injured, letting Aerts take their place. It was a unpleasant surprise when it was Aerts who walken into the ring. Aerts got the news that he had to put on his gloves again just 2 minutes before walking into the arena again. Sefo said he was glad Choi had dropped out, since if he had not, their fight would have been the #1 reserve fight and Sefo would have had to fight Glaube in the Semi. Something he didnt want to do since they are close friends nowday. Sato apparently impressed. more at: http://forum.kakutougi.info/showthre...895#post112895
