Peter Aerts is joining IBK!
I did a quick scan of IBK´s (Gordeau faction) webpage at:
http://www.internationalbudokai.com/...sp?page_id=140 One of the news items there caught my attention. "Peter Aerts joined IBK Last week the famous Dutch K-1 fighter Peter Aerts joined IBK. Peter will present himself at the European Summerschool next year in Budapest Hungary were he will give kick box classes and fighting training. " Interesting!!!

Is his faction only Kyokushin Karate or does it include Ashihara-ryu?

IBK USED to have both kyokushin, ashihara and kickboxing. Now, after many have left due to conflicts with Bluming, and after IBK recently split into two factions (recently enough that I dont think its completely clear which dojos are in which faction yet), No idea really. They still have kyokushin and kickboxing. I think that they have a few ashihara dojos, but not nearly as many as before.

Osu Martin! You speak of faction splits and I have read on Kyokushin's wikipedia that the factions that ended up splitting were Jon Bluming's group and Gerard Gordeau's group. I don't if this was an error on the writer's part or they have made up since then but Jon Bluming had recently appointed Gerard Gordeau as Kancho of the IBK.
"It too recently splintered into two different groups who both at the moment still use the same name - one led by Jon Bluming the other by Gerard Gordeau." - Kyokushin Wikipedia btw. Peter Aerts in the IBK is just greatness for whoever can learn from him. Ray Sefo as well has taken up a residence at the Ichigeki Academy in Japan. Sefo and Feitosa share the same trainer who's been assigned to be the Ichigeki Kickboxing Trainer. Last edited by sokaiya; 12-16-2006 at 02:36 PM. |

That is going into politics, which is not allowed here.
Bluming did appoint Gordeau as his successor in march 2006 (Gordeau has been a member of IBK a long time and has been "heir apparent" for a couple of years), but then stuff happened (exactly what happened differ dependig on who you talk to -lets not go into it here) and since may 2006 there are two spearate IBK organizations. One led by Gordeau as Blumings appointed successor (with Bluming listed as retired) http://www.internationalbudokai.com/...eb/default.asp And one led by Bluming (with Gordeau striken from all lists) http://www.ibk.nl/

Osu! My intentions were not to get into anything political, there is just confusion . Considering what it says, and yet they're both split into factions, anybody could easily be confused.
