i had a great day at reading yesterday,meeting tmd,lucy,pheezy,dkkc,niceguy.
i sat with tmd and watched the fights and he was really informative about the current fighters and very knowledgable..thanks tmd! lucy got mugged, the girl she fought in the semi was very spirited and brave but i.m.o lucy clearly won the fight...two corner judges agreed but she still didn`t get the fight...i also think the fact that the other girl had recently had a baby didn`t help lucy`s "killer" instinct!..she withdrew from the final injured and somebody who looked like her was seen feeding her baby in the gallery.....lucy lost on weight....of course i am not taking anything away from the other girl, to mix it after having a baby takes courage and she wasn`t a bad fighter. pheezy brought some fighters down from scotland and one in particular tmd and i thought was very unlucky...i can`t remember the guys name but he was 21 and has a big future, a natural talent..pheezy told me he has a mauy thai fight in two weeks time!...one to watch in october. having watched dkkc fight i have to say she is a top class fighter with some amazing kicks....a very impressive lady, as good as i`ve ever seen!! at the end of the day tmd introduced me to "niceguy" his tag reflects his true self, it was a shame i didn`t meet him earlier and have time to talk. anybody who has read any of my threads about great fighters will know how high in esteem i hold jeff wybrow...him being an old instructor of mine ....when i spotted him in the crowd i just had to make sure we got some photos with him and the fellow k4l members....as ever a true gentleman, had time to chat about the past and joined in the photos....please excuse the fact that the photos are not posted immediately as i am not computer literate and i need to find somebody with a brain..but they will get posted!! mrs hasbeen i think was a bit disinterested until the wai/darren fight and told me in no uncertain terms that darren was robbed...i thought why the sudden interest?.....this became aparant afterwards when an extremely shy looking girl approached darren and said,"excuse me darren may i have a photo?" this made me laugh, another darren stringer groupy!!..he said would your husband like to be in the photo, i laughed and said, darren that would really spoil it for her!!...then he made her take another one with me in it,again what a nice guy...i wished him well for october and we all walked away grinning. as always in any tournament there were fighters that i considered unlucky but that is only my opinion and i thought the tournament was very well run and a credit to the b.k.k the after tournament k4l meet for october i think will be in croydon..if it is o.k with everybody i am going to arrange it with bloke and his guys that are travelling over from ireland. it was a true pleasure to put faces to names and i have to say everybody was really friendly and it made it a wondefull experience for me. my wife said to me this morning she said she had a dream about,"kickboxing"......i said was darren in it?....of course came the reply!.....is he fighting in october?? something for everybody these k.d tournaments!! thanks to everybody again, especially tmd!! see you all in october and i hope many more of you will try and get there and share what we all have in common!!!!!!! ![]() Last edited by hasbeen; 06-22-2008 at 12:27 PM. |

Thanks for the write up Hasbeen! Yes it was a good tournament and great to meet you all! Gutted not to get to the final especially after my opponent said she couldnt continue, but hey i had a good fight off for 3rd and 4th. I really enjoyed my fights and got a nice trophy for 3rd place! Kyokushin kumite is harsh at times with decisions, but thats all part of learning for next time

I thought Wai was a middle weight... Did he drop weight to fight light weight.. or did Stringer move up to middle? (hard to believe since he was 62 kilo in 2007)

I have to ditto everything hasbeen said (Except the stuff about me being knowledgeable
,) it was as expected from the BKK a well run if a little overly formal event with some good fights, no actually knockdowns (Kenny Jarvis didn't fight ) but some well rounded knockdown fighters with good speed, agility and the kinda stamina I'd kill for. One thing that I felt was a real shame was Darren Chan doing his knee as I thought he'd go all the way - hope it was just a knock.Hasbeen and his missus made it as much a social occasion as my reason for attending, a longing to assess if I could still cut it - will come back to you guys on that. I was admiring the fighting spirit and skills of DKKC without knowing who she was which made it all the better for meeting her (I'll keep her good use of the Internet comment to myself for now )Lucy was unlucky in her match, as I think to be fair her judgment was clouded by the fact her opponent was a newbie mum - this was a little unfair for Lucy as having watched her fight at the 06 National today I know she'd have been a clear winner had she fought her fight. I have to say Pheezys' guy (I think it was Sam) who fought Darren Stringer was unlucky not to get the decision but there are always those in tournaments - they are subjective and to be fair had it gone to the scales Darren would still have been awarded the fight - tough call after a top fight - he would also have been my nomination for most spirited fighter, am certainly looking forward to seeing him fight again in October. As Niceguy said it was a shame to only meet up at the end as I had some people I needed to see before heading off, so we'll have to make sure we ALL attend Hasbeens do in October. There were some other members present, 2 that I know of but am not sure of their logins - so a total of at least 8 k4L's not bad at all. (only 1 T-shrt thought ) One things Re October - They did say tickets may be in short supply as K2 is nowhere near as big as Palace so to anyone who's going act fast, they go on sale in three weeks to us non BKK types and I for one will be on them like a hawk - I ain't missing this. Another well done to 'our' fighters - Good Kyokushin all round.

Hi guys it was good to put faces to names ,enjoyed our short talk. The boy that fought darren was thomas conroy,in his kast 3 fights hes had aromanian who he beat ,then kenny jarvis lost, darren stringer lost?? and the dutch boy who won cp a few years back hes never in a dull fight.
Iain Coogie potter who i thought was brilliant against and going 3 rounds with tom silver on only his second fight made me chuffed as thomas or Tam for short(its scots) trained hard for 10 weeks for this. Enjoyed the event and leave as a comment on the senshidokarate website guys osu until k2 kenny pheezy macphee google oban and you will see how small the place is but scenery unbeaten ![]() |

Osu! Pheezy,
Would this be the Oban described as is a resort town within the Argyll and Bute council area of Scotland? If so, it does look like a lovely area to live. Congratulations on the success of your Dojo. I wish you much more, and ask that you share any videos of your fighters progress. Osu!
