KSK Championships Rule Book
Sonofkanga, I found these rules. Scroll down the page until you get to the clicker section. Although they vary slightly from IFK clicker rules. If you want/need to know the differences feel free to ask. ![]()

Ok well pretty much the same:IFK differences
Only use two refs and an arbitrator Competitors wear a red belt and the other a white belt White hand mitts. Gum shields are not compulsory There is no SANBON, NIHON scores only IPPON and WAZARI Scoring is IPPON for jodan kicks, scores to the back and leg sweeping the opponent to the mat followed by a scoring technique WAZARI is for all other techniques (chudan punches, urakens, tettsui's, mawashi chudan geris, mae geris) Penalties are only imposed during the bout No jodan tsukis to the face These are the only differences from what is on this site. What is doesnt tell you is time limits. Bouts are 2 mins long. If encho-san (in the event of a draw) is needed its an extra minute. Warnings for illegal techniques, behaviour or excessive contact are: 1st warning: Chui 2nd warning: Chui Ichi 3rd warning: Genten Ichi Then Shikkaku get off my tatami! Warnings are the same as knockdown.Yes lightning fast, parry and counter continuous sparring. The fight is not stopped unless and IPPON is scored. All other scores are recorded on hand held clickers by the referees, hench the name CLICKER ![]()

As we've been redirected I'll answer Walshy's question I think Clicker is an invaluable learning tool to becoming a good technical knockdown fighter with both speed and power - I have found the ones who dismiss it have, in the main never fought (or even seen it done) at any sort of high level.
When I first started Kyokushin you did Clicker first then Knockdown once you got to about 8th or 7th Kyu. This way you had speed, control and a degree of foot work skills before getting all worked up about getting or giving a bashing - those who don't like it usually lack the required control for it, this is not a total criticism but an observation - if you train in a knockdown biased dojo and do knockdown from day 1 you are going to find it hard to focus on just the speed and precision of the technique - lots of top knockdown fighters also won Clicker comps - Dave Pickthall to name 1, lost of others have not there's no hard and fast rule about it.

As my org doesn't do clicker fighting, take my opinion with a grain of salt. I've been to a few seminars where we were instructed to fight clicker style, and I HATED IT! Yes, practicing control is good, but basically it just seemed like continuous point sparring, albeit with less contact then the shotokan fighting I've done. When trying to spar with my TKD or Kung Fu friends who abide by similar 'clicker' style rules, I was very frustrated that their superior speed would beat me even though my superior power would clean their clocks in a 'real' match. I personally believe that practicing pulling your punches/kicks will form bad habits. Yes, control is vital to success in Kyokushin, but you can practice control without pulling punches (IE slow, controlled sparring, and of course lots of kihons).
Lastly, and hopefully this won't get the thread locked down, what organizations generally incorporate clicker training into their dojos? I know IFK is big on it (the seminars I practiced clicker training were IFK), but are any of the Japanese organizations holding clicker tournaments? (No disrespect to IFK, they have some extremely well rounded fighters and took all the top spots at IKO3's last world cup)

Why do Clicker?
Well there are a lot of people out there who want to learn Kyokushin but don't have any desire to do knockdown due to any number of reason - so Clicker enables them to compete, to test themselves on the mat.
I can honestly say I don't recall ever being caught holding back a technique in a knockdown bought (won my last tourney, stopping the guys in both rounds 1 & 2) or being disqualified for excessive contact in Clicker - my mind can separate the two just as it knows what is kata or kihon and I always spend weeks doing event specific training - I mean no disrespect but I think the holding back thing is a myth generally held by people who have never done both. One last benefit is when I am training for knockdown I can go full power at the lower levels but control my head kicks to just enough to know what could have been , this way I know they work in a particular situation without sparking out my sparing partners ![]()

Clicker does not allow contact? It seems I have misunderstood something, then. With risk of beeing mauled, I think it's rather silly to practice knock-down techniques without contact. In that case, I am much more in favour of our moderate knock-down rules for juniors. It's much like our semi-contact rules (WCK-S), where there are no lowkicks, no techniques to the face, moderate kicks to the head, but otherwise full contact to the body. Juniors will wear padded vest and helmet. This allows the student to practice knock-down karate, without actually beeing reckless.

Clicker is semi contact (which can be an interpretation problem) and allows strikes to the top and sides of the head so it gets you blocking your head and keeping your hands high - I am not going to debate moderate knockdown vs Clicker as I think they are both valid ( and I have never done moderate knockdown so can't know if it works as a training tool). But I just think in Clicker you're leaning a different skill set from water down knockdown as I think in any knockdown there is a tendency in lower level comps (especially kids) for it to be more about aggression and brawling than technique and learning a fighting system - but as I said I've not done it/ been taught it so I can't judge from anything more than I've seen on the Net etc.
