Kyofighter's 50 man kumite
Osu!
Recently Sensei Steve (Kyofighter on this board) asked my dojo in conjunction with his own and Satory Dojo to help him complete the 50 man kumite test. Although we didn't have the requisite 50 fresh black belt fighters, we did have enough strong and heavy fighters that it made for a very good test. Sensei Steve spent 7 or 8 years here in the U.S. (founding Contact Kicks Dojo and teaching kickboxing for a local gym in Denver) and today is returning home to Romania to open a dojo in his home country. I had the honor of being able to train with him for the past 2.5 years, learning many new techniques and also having my ego put in check on numerous occasions (due to his incredibly fast and powerful kicks and punches). Sensei Steve is one of the most dedicated Kyokushin practitioners I have ever met (I'm sure any of you who have trained with him will agree). I would like to share with this board some highlights from his test: http://gallery.me.com/schuyler.w (there is an extended version and a shorter one that you can choose) You'll need to be running the latest version of Apple's Quicktime software in order to view the video. Finally, that's Senpai Marta (1998 IKO1 women's heavyweight world champion and head of Satory Dojo in Denver CO) refereeing the fights. Enjoy the video and if you ever have a chance to make it to Romania, I highly recommend stopping by Sensei's new dojo and blocking a few jodan mawashigeri's with your head! Nice video and congratulations to Kyofighter.
I do have to ask, what is so appealing about music with a beat that is composed of gunshots, reloads, and what sounds like a cash register? Haha. |

Don't blame Kyofighter for the music, that was my bad (or good if you like it). The first song is MIA and I thought it was catchy. The music was thrown in because the original audio is messed up (along with the video dropping some frames which is why it's jerky).

Osu!
Nice video, Schuyler. Thanks for posting. I see what you mean about his Jodan Mawashi. Good on both legs. The music... Well, how can anyone argue with lyrics like, "I've got more records than the KGB". ![]() Osu!

I actually forgot to say well done to Kyokfighter
And Schuyler that first song is really catchy for some strange reason.

answer for b3n
This was just a personal and not official challenge. All my opponents are just part-time karate people with jobs and school to go. Even with protective gear we were all bruised and hurt. I'm sure that without the gear ,major injuries would have occured. I did it to challenge my skils mostly and just to have a challenge for me as a sandan. I really don't care what people say about it, as you see I didn't post the video and I didn't even asked sempai Sky to do it, but I don't mind that he did. You can say if you want that it was only a dojo 50 kumite test. For me it was great and I'm happy that I did it. I was the highest rank in Colorado ( now I live in Romania), also the oldest one and I wanted to inspire my students with this. That is all . Osu !

On a side note, how did you experience this to be?
Was it difficult? Did you travel a lot to meet up with other and train with them? Can you give some insight into this? Osu

Well for me it was not new ... I always had to strugle with this issue, beeing alone and dojo leader.
When I opened my dojo in Colorado we were only a handfull of people but in time more and more people joined us. About going to seminars and tournaments - I had to travel 1500 milles to test and compete, from Denver CO to Rochester NY. There are no excuses if you are dedicated enough. Osu.

No. But, its such a large country that traveling is inevitable. Colorado has a very small population of Kyokushin practitioners, but other places, like New York, California, and Washington State, have very large contingents of Kyokushin dojos.

OSU! Kyofighter, well done!
I can see your kumite partners must have respect for your abilities, as they were all very cautious when fighting you.....not untill you were very tired did they really start to lay into you! Good luck in Romania
