Mirko Cropcop is no karate-ka, but his left leg is outstanding and has knocked out many of his opponents with his "Left high".
What are your opinions on his kick? What made him so successful with his left leg? Some of his highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdaw-UTo9TE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3puPvJHUtjE Last edited by kyokushin4life; 10-07-2006 at 03:15 PM. |

Mirko is my favorite Pride fighter. I have always been impressed by his killer instincts and his overall toughness. His kicks are definitely impressive to watch. One thing he is quite good at doing is aiming higher on the head for his infamous left kick (well documented on your posted video) in order to shake the head and rattle the brain. This undoubtedly will KO his opponent. It is sweet to watch.
I believe Mirko is a natural lefty but in addition to his flexibility, he has EXCELLENT TIMING. My guess on why he is so successful a kickboxer. |

Crocop comes from a karate based kickboxing background, and spent some time in karate. Some say he was originaly _kyokushin_ based, but I have never seen relieable info about that.

i have also read about him holding sandan in kyokushin. but even if he didnt, he is truly an amazing fighter. one of his most memorable fights to me was when he fought wanderlei silva, who is a man that cannot be hurt, and mirko gave him a chudan mawashi geri, and instantaneously left a bruise on wanderlei, and he threw about 3 more in the same area.
precision, power, and speed. it doesnt get any better |

Mirko is also my favourite Pride fighter! He seems like a cool guy aswell.
You can see how difficult it would be for fighters to know if his kick is Jodan or Chudan because of the angle and speed, it would be quite scary I think haha. And knowing that 1 wrong move will put you in a coma must be horrible. I also love it how he motions the other fighters to stand up, always brings a smile to my face. Go Mirko! Ps. Does anyone know where I can import a Cro cop T-Shirt from, I think the t-shirts with something security on the front, then team cro cop on the back are awsome!

I notice that alot of people on other forums call Crocops highkick a muay thai based kick, but on this i must disagree because if you look at it, the pivot and the bend of the kick is Karate/tawkwondo based in aesthetics. It could also be called a "brazilian kick", i have also noticed the contact point is on his foot, not unlike a kyokushinkai.

Dont think you could call it a brazilian kick as they go over the guard and down on the head/neck, but he does get his knee very high before he kicks.
