Osu! Is the planned Daido-Juku seminar still going to take place in Lexington, North Carolina? I have not heard anything else about this. Help greatly appreciated. Osu!

Thanks Dent. I wish I could make the seminars. I won't be in NY until Jan.

Due to work commitments, Kononenko Senshu and the winners of all categories will not come to US this time. The heavyweight vice-champion Kimura Senshu has been selected as the substitute.

I am only one of the pulse sensors, whereas you are THE pulse setter.

I'm looking forward to this event. Hope to see some local K4L faces this weekend. Dent, will you be attending the Joisey seminar? NYC? or both?

Update from Mr Hirono: Please bring your sparring gear to this event! Gloves, mouthpiece, shin & insteps, cup, and headgear if you have it! Seems that aside from the general basic training format from most seminars, there will be some active participation! ![]() Osu!

The Kudo seminar led by Azuma sensei was last night (11/22/08) at Fighthouse, NYC. About 15 students, mostly yudansha were in attendance. Dent and I were lurking in the back of the class in our stealth dogi and shirobi. The warm-up was similar to the Kyokushin warm-up: wiggle toes, wiggle ankles, etc. Kihon was interesting because this was where we got introduced to the innovations that distinguish Kudo from Kyokushin. The spiral punch got my attention. This starts out like chudan soto uke, except your fist makes an upward trajectory resulting in an upper-cut. It's hard to squeeze the essence of Kudo in 2 short hours. Azuma sensei introduce popular combinations, which we got to try out on our partners. The punching combinations weren't too far from what you might see in a typical dojo. Though, he did emphasize keeping your head in motion so as not to catch your opponent's counter as you make your attack. We also practiced punching and throwing combinations. The throws were primarily de ashi barai, osoto-gari, and koshi-garuma. I had the singular opportunity to be Azuma sensei's demonstration dummy, when he showed what to do when your opponent is resisting your osoto-gari: hiji uchi. Throughout the class, Azuma sensei and his two assistant instructors walked around and critiqued our technique. The class ended with a brief review of all the combinations. Then we took a group photo and parted ways. It's a shame more people didn't turnout. 2hrs with a former Kyokushin champion, founder of Kudo, and two kudo intructors for $30! You don't get many opportunities like that. To top it off, Dent and I retreated to a corner table at a nearby Korean BBQ joint for beer and kalbi. You should have been there! ![]()

I attended the Friday Night seminar with Jukucho Azuma and I had a great time. As with the Saturday event, not many people took advantage of such a wonderful opportunity. Dent was there in stealth mode also.
Jukucho has a knee injury which made it difficult for him to demonstrate. But his power is evident. The highlight of the evening for me however was going out to eat afterward with many of the participants. I loved listening to his ideas on budo and hearing his stories from when he was a member of the Kyokushinkai. I especially loved hearing about his time in NY preparing for the first world tournament...especially since some of those stories involved my former teacher. Jukucho Azuma was so personable, funny, and completely unpretentious. I had a great time. Miguel Rios Karatedo Shurenkan
