UFC - Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre
Georges St. Pierre, a former Kyokushin student will be in the main event against Matt Hughes UFC65: BAD INTENTIONS. I'm not a big UFC fan but I like St. Pierre's technique.

Most MMA fans seems to think that the veteran Hughes have to much experience for the still relatively new GSP. I hope that they are wrong.
The fight is on tomorrow I belive.

I was just going to say it but you were first. Anyway as an addition I will add that during the whole first round and the bits of teh second GSP was the dominant one. In the end of the 1st round he knocked down Hughes with a left hook. There were some attempts from Hughes to take GSP down butwe saw an amazing defense from GSP. Also the final blow was landed after Hughes thought thet the lef Mawashi from GSP will be gedan so he lowered his arm in order to cach it and then attempt a takedown but the Mawashi was jodan and it pass through the unguarded head of Hughes. |

Matt Hughes is one of the best fighters in UFC history and GSP kicked the crap out of him. Let's hope we see some other Kyokushin fighters in the UFC and other MMA promotions soon. Do you guys think that Kyokushin dojo operators look down on MMA fighting or don't encourage their fighters to branch out into different types of tournaments?

Yes indeed!! GSP is quite good and he is getting more popular in Quebec, he's home country. Since he is a local, we get more coverage on him. He got a big kyokushinkai background, adapted his style to MMA by practicing also Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, and Wrestling.
I did not catch the fight, but as i can guess from the image above, that part of the fight was standing position, ideal for a kyokushinkai. Nice kick!

He has named his kyokushin instructor as Jean Couture, and that he died of lung cancer.
The name rings a small bell somewhere in my memory, but I cant place him.
