Shihan Francisco Filho is training for "Pride". Currently he is training mixed martial arts at BTT(Brazillian Top Team) where a famous pride fighter Nogueira trains.
Shihan Filho is looking forward to fighting in MMA fighting, representing as a Karateka. |

Osu nzproud-san,
Could the migration of Shihan Francisco Filho be the result of the success of Mirko Crocop Filipovic (former K-1 fighter) in his Pride fights. Some say it was the conquest of "Stand-up over Grappling." Famous fight was between Crocop and Wand Silva, 1st match draw & 2nd match Crocop knocked out Silva). Oh my, it was bloody for Silva. Also the Fedor Emilianenko vs Crocop were Fedor (the Russian Experiment) won by decision not KO. A new venue, a new breed, variety and better fights. Best wishes to Shihan Filho. Osu! |

If the deal can be made, I wish to see them both fighting in their DOGI !!!
Oh maybe just when they enter the ring (on second thoughts wearing a gi may give advantages to a judoka). The whole "judo vs karate" theme carries a very "budo" atmosphere. It should be done in the "budokan". OSU!

Hum...i don't think it would be wise to fight a judoka such as Hidehiko Yoshida wearing a gi. I hope Filho has already a good takedown-defense otherwise it will be hard for him to face a grappler. He also needs to train newaza a lot. I hope he wins in anyway possible. Submission is fine (and that would be one hell of a surprise) but the KO would be a majestic end for that fight.
By the way Hidehiko Yoshida lost to James Thompson (who relies mostly on brute force rather than technique) by KO.

Honestly I don't see he has a chance against Yoshida. It is not easy for a striker to learn grappling in such a short period of time to compete at Pride level, especially in the end of his career.

Osu,
Should Shihan Filho pursue a strategy of grappling Yoshida sensei will be advantaged. However, a majority stand up fight with with some grappling may give Shihan an advantage. Mirko Crocop did destroy the legs of Yoshida sensei during their match, mostly gedan mawashi geri. Knowing Shihan Filho's gedan mawashi geri is strong may give him same advantage as Crocop. Osu! |

No disrespect to yoshida, but his stand up game is terrible. he can take punishment, but if filho shihan keeps it standing up there will be no contest.

Yoshida's stand up is not great but good enought to help him to capitalize his ground game. Actually, he did very well in the past against top strikers such as Hunt & Wand.
BTT is one of the best in the business, I hope Filho sticks with them for a while and then come out of his retirement. |

Its great to finaly have a kyokushin MMA fighter. Shihan Francisco is good on "stand-up" fight, but in the ground... i think he will fight just like Crocop Fighted when he started fighting on MMA
Good luck for him |

I'm sure Filho will be succesful in this sort of competition aswell. He's strong he has a lot of stand up experience and the main thin he has to worry about is of course the ground game - considering his training with BTT I think he will catch up well enough.

Pride events are suspended for now since their takeover by UFC. I haven't heard of Filho fighting elsewhere either.

Yoshida striked very well against wanderlei back than. Fhilio MMA? Hm? I rather hope to see him train new generations for K1 and MMA. But that also mean kyokushin has to adapt their style. But let it not be a topic about changing kyokushin styles. ![]() |
