Oh I like Shihan Osada Kenichi! His techniques were so powerful and he ran over his opponents like a bulldozer. A few years ago he fought in Hokutoki and said he wanted to meet Fujimatsu on the mat. He did not get there because of his age and also he was injured in the first round but still, he always will be a legend in Daido Juku.
http://www.ku-do.com/home/manga/kudo04_1/1.html (This is part 1/2 of the new comic strip about Shihan Osada, this time focuses on his return to Hokutoki) Ichihara also comments my respect as he was the one to fight in UFC at the time when MMA was still small. But it was a pity that he disappeared sometime after that. OSU!

What impresses me so much about Fujimatsu sempai is that hes just soo cool and calm on the mat. His style is so original, yet so effective.
If I could just achieve that level of calmness and cool confidence in a competition, I could be so much more effective. In the Kanto tournament it was like he was just taking it easy sparring with some kouhai! |

We all strive to achieve such calmness. the fact that Fujimatsu Sensei has done it, doesn't mean that He has finished his journey. No there are still many obstacles in front of Him that will continue to make Him stronger and stronger. And thus people like him and Ogawa Sensei and Jukucho Azuma himself exist in order to inspire the ordinary practioner to be a true Budoka. An induvidual doesn't have to be a two time World Champion (as Fujimatsu Sensei), nor a great fighter and skilled warrior (as Ogawa), but there is a saying that goes "The real joy of the purpose is not the purpose itself but the way that leads to it!" And if by the way an individual has, he bacome such a high skilled Budoka, that is just a bonus to the real deal- the specific way of livind that a Martial Arts provides, the special type of characteristic that we as people achieve and the unique possibility for constant battle with ourselves and the exciting opportunity for every-day-self-improvement! |

Well said!
Indeed Fujimatsu emits an aura of real Budo spirit that is truely inspiring. Finding peace and serenity in a secluded spot is one thing. To acheive it in everyday life is a much more difficult challenge. But to master it in the face of an aggressive opponent is really amazing. By attempting to find that level of tranquility in the heart of confrontation we must face all our inner most fears, doubts and critisisms. There is no room for self delusion. Our weaknesses exposed for all to see. This makes the path of Budo truely unique in its methods of self perfection. |
