He is a truely an awesome fighter. I got to spar with him a little at the summer camp, but I was too tired to really put up much of a fight though. I look forward to facing him in the ring. It would be an honor. |

Is Kononenko going to fight in Hokutoki? I just saw the results of Tohoku selection and did not see his name. OSU!

Actually I dont know. But because he won the spring Hokutoki he doesn't have to compete in the regionals.
He automatically gets into the Hokutoki. |

Thanks but congratulations aren't really deserved. I fought TERRIBLY!
I don't know what I was doing out there, but it sure wasn't what I've been practicing. I only got 4th place because my first opponent pulled out due to injury, giving me the win by default. I won my second fight by decision. Somehow I managed to score a kouka point. Dont even remember how. I was sure that I had lost, and actually thought the score judges had made a mistake at first! Then I lost my third fight by decision. My opponent had a judo background and had really good ground control, scoring a kouka on me from mount punches. I don't know why but I was just soo lacking focus. My timing and distancing were way off. Just trying too hard to go full power and knock the stuffing out of my opponents, but not setting up the power shots. That may work against lower level opponents, but better fighters will just see you coming and move. I wasn't seeing what my opponents were doing at all. Just walking forward and getting countered. If I want to compete in the world championships I'll have to put on a much better performance at the next Hokutoki or I don't deserve to be there. Still, I'm glad I finally got to compete without serious injury against better opponents. It really helped me realize what I need to work on to reach a higher level. Congratulations are deserved by my Dojo kouhai, Shunsuke Tanaka though. He won the middle weight division. Shunsuke moved to Tokyo from Hokkaido earlier this year to be an uchi deshi at our dojo. He was really on fire, doing exactly what our sensei has taught us to do, and proving himself without a doubt as the best fighter in his division. His daily hard work and dedication has really paid off. |

I have seen Katsu's name associated with free-style Jujitsu/BJJ fights (not sure if he is the same Katsu who trains at Academia Az, a MMA school).
I like the way you analyse your performance and you have aimed clearly at the Sekai Taikai next year. I hope you will become more and more all-rounded with your persistent training. Would you consider taking some extra grappling training at Sohonbu (taught by Yamasaki, Fujimatsu and people from Paraestra) or elsewhere? By the way this tournament will be shown on "Gaora" in December and be sure not to miss it.

I managed to use an arm bar escape I've been practising, in my fight against Katsu, and avoid losing by ippon. Thats about the only good thing I managed to do in that fight! ![]() But once a week isn't enough. I'm going to start going to Paraestra twice a week from now on to really strengthen my ground game. I will probably get a kickboxing fight sometime before the next Hokutoki too , just to get some extra ring experience. I've got to work on keeping a cool clear head under pressure so I can really do what I'm capable of. |

No I probably wont compete in R.I.S.E.
I'm not a big fan of the K1 style rules. I prefer Muay Thai. Actually I'll probably fight at a little Thai restaurant here called Oenjai. They have a ring in the middle of the room and put on fights on the weekends. Its totally low key operation, but through their connections they get some really top name fighters in there. Ex Lumpini champs and top Japanese fighters. Its a good environment to get some ring experience. My sensei fights there regularly, and he's been trying to get me in there for a while now, but injuries have been hampering me constantly this past year. |

Osu! Kudoist,
My hat is off to you! Clearly identifying goals, possible issues, past injuries, and definite aspects that you can improve. With this outlook, you can only succeed! Osu!
