Hmmm - hadn't thought about arm wrestling as an alternative....Will have to start working on that one. At least it will give my knees a break!

Is S.A.W. similar to BJJ. I think Jujutsu would make your better mixer.
full-contact jujutsu utilizes zuki y geri along with submission.

S.a.w
I'm actually not familiar with BJJ< so I cant' answer taht. SAW is (to my observation) a combination of Judo/grappling(including lots of techniques that aren't legal in Judo)/muay-thai.
We fight in Judo Gi's, (for teh throws), but every match just about ends up on the floor. Head punches are allowed, and the gloves are not boxing gloves - fingers are out (so that they can be grappled upon). I haven't done tournaments in this - it seems far too brutal to me. I have provided first aid services at both a SAW tournament and kyokushin. The injury rates at SAW tourneys seems to be much higher, but the fighting was more realistic. ![]() |

Shidokan and Krav Maga or Shidokan/FMA (regarding self defense).
Karate and Kobudo is a good mixer as well (traditional connection and shared principles).

Kyokushin, Boxing and 1 ground art. I think the only component of Kyokushin that's lacking is in the ground fighting portion.

Sosai had yondan ranking in judo. I think Jukucho Azuma is the only one to tap that knowledge. Myself, I feel that Azuma has started a path that kyokushin should have already done. He has found a way that follows you from the dojo, to the streets, into the tournaments, and back into the dojo. Not saying tha Daido way is perfect, but he has broken the separation theory. One way prepares you for all ways. ![]()

Kyokushin (as it is today in most dojos) + Boxing + Ju-jutsu + Modern Self Defense (weapons) is already good enough.
I could add Daito-ryu Aiki-jutsu + Kickboxing + Kobu-jutsu + Taikyokuken if there was time for someone to train all that. I can tell you Francisco Filho chose Kickboxing/Boxing and also aded some Ju-jutsu training into his curriculum (he's been training MMA although never competed under those rules).

Right now I am studying Kyokushin and Aiki-Jujitsu at the same time. I am the same rank in both styles and usually learn them in parallel. I think they are a good mixer really. If i had to mix another style I might actually go with a Wushu style. Either Wing Chung or Xingyi. I am actually learning a little bit of Xingyi at the moment and it really does seem like it would mix with kyokushin well.
I think in the end it will be an interesting mix. But honestly if i could i would learn it all pick the things i like about everything and incorporate it into one. |

A little OT, but I did a Yoshinkan Aikido beginner's class and it filled in a lot of gaps for me when it came to applying locks and learning to breakfall.
I don't know about other dojos but in the ones I have been to we practiced takedowns, but we never even talked about falling without getting hurt! |
