bj is well rounded. he can box, grapple, is hard to take down, and should good knees in kicks (last bout with sherk). bj has only lost in past due to cardio/conditioning. if he's in shape he can pose a threat for anybody. he has fought some tough guys from 155-205lbs (renzo gracie, machida, hughes, etc.)

Machida also trains quite a bit in Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu.

I'm trying to bite my tongue because I think a lot of this is crazy. Not you, Shidokan, I'm pretty much in total agreement with you but I think some of you maybe a little bit biased towards GSP because of his Kyokushin background. GSP is young, who knows, maybe in a few years he'll show some vast improvements? Griffin has improved, Josh Barnett has improved a lot in the last 3-4 years, so GSP could, too. The fact is, there are guys out there around GSP's weight that could potentially beat him. There aren't that many guys that have what it takes to beat Anderson Silva. Silva beat Henderson, for crying out loud. I'd love to see Penn and GSP go at it again, especially if Penn stays in the shape he's been in as of late. Penn has an uncanny ability against being taken down.
The fact is, Silva transitions between the striking and grappling much more naturally than GSP does. Don't get me wrong, I'll always watch a UFC card that has GSP fighting. The only thing I'm upset about right now is the fact the Affliction card is the same day that Silva is fighting...a good chance I'm going to be paying around $90 USD to watch both cards that day!!!(rematch between Rizzo and Barnett, and Fedor fighting on Affliction!)

Isn't the UFC card free on Spike? The Affliction card is dinosaur-day! I'm going to try and find some others who want to watch it, and split the bill.

I watched the UFC card this past weekend. I have to say that Griffin and Jackson wasnt as good as I thought it was going to be.

(using Anderson as an example...i'm not picking on him...lol). Anderson is a great fighter, that is no doubt...and other than Lutter in UFC, he beat everyone that they threw at him without really going all the way. in that sense of the word, he is the best right now.

When someone asks me who is the best...i don't look at "right now", cause right now always changes...what i do look at is their potential. They might be good (not great) right now, but give time, if they have the potential for growth, and become better, then i say that fighter is a better fighter than the one who is already Great, but reached his/her max potential.

For example...(lol...i'm gonna use video game for an example. so i hope you all understand it.)

Fighter A: Fighting level of 60 with a max cap of 80. (that's 20 levels of improvement)
Fighter B: Fighting level of 50 with a max cap of 120. (that's 70 levels of improvement)

Sure, at this current level fighter A is a better fighter pound for pound...but looking at the growth potential, Fighter B is a better fighter over all, considering that Fighter B has the will power and training to keep going and tap the potential power.

LOL...i hope that made some what of a sense...

OSU!
It makes sense but the question is who is the best and that can only be measured in the present or past as GSP for example could drop out tomorrow, do something different or suffer a permanent injury - how many times have we heard of the guys who could have ruled the world only to be faltered in this way.

In my opinion the two best P4P fighters in the UFC are definetly Georges St Pierre and Anderson Silva.
They have an outstanding stand up, a great take down defense and they're versed in grappling.
They also have great strengh for their weight class.
They're many champs in the cage but these two are just aliens!!

Personally, I have to put my main man Silva first, then BJ and then GSP.

My UFC P4P top 3 in no particular order: A.Silva, GSP, BJ

The better fighters at Heavyweight, Lightweight and Featherweight are not in the UFC.

A little OT but I liked that Silva said after his last fight (in the LHW division) that his responsibility was to his own division and that he would concentrate his efforts there.

I agree with the heavyweight part, but Lightweights??? Come on, BJ would wipe the floor with anyone! Who could give him trouble? Aoki? Hansen? Calvante?
He's something else !!

That was an error, I meant light heavyweights

Sorry about that, Bj is awesome!
But I still have to disagree, lightHeavyweights, who out there has a better roster then the UFC? Sokoupjou, Mashida, Da Silva, Liddell, Griffin, Rampage, Vera, Silva (Anderson), Jardine...
Who can really hang in there with these guys?
