The second movie Cagney's company would produce was Blood On the Sun, a film for which Cagney, insisting on doing his own stunts, required judo training from Ken Kuniyuki, a judo expert, and Jack Halloran, a former policeman.[35]. The Cagneys had hoped that a more action based James Cagney film would appeal more to the audience, but the film faired worse at the box office than Johnny Come Lately.

He was years ahead of his time. Compare the MA from Blood on the Sun to both The Manchurian Candidate, and Bad Day at Black Rock.

That said, the latter two films are classics. It takes more than just the action to make a great movie.
