Yoshinori Ikeda and Mauricio Silva both lost their K-1 MMA debut matches. Ikeda lost to Hideo Tokoro and Silva to Sylvester Turkey. So i'm not so sure if Nakahara is necessarly ready for this match. Hope he is though. We'll see.

Very interesting!
I agree that its a big step for him to fight MMA. However Saku is not the gracie killer of old. I suspect that he will go down from Nakahara´s punches. Saku needs to quit fighting and start thinking of what remains of his health. It would be a terrible thing if he was to become the first case of punch drunk (or worse) in MMA.

Agreed. Any death in the fighting arts adversely affects all of us, because the public can't tell us apart. Osu! |

Those guys at Chute Boxe are very agressive indeed but their striking skills are not that good against other top level strikers. If you look at Wanderley Silva's match against Mirko you'll notice that he's very wild with much less technique and that cost him the fight. Even Shogun who was the best to me among Chute Boxe everytime he faces an opponent with decent striking skills (like Cyril Diabate or even Rogerio Nogueira) tends to take the fight to the ground.
In K-1 most of them wouldn't last much. I think what Kyokushin fighters really need to develop now for MMA competition are their grappling skills. And for that matter i think BTT or ATT is a better choice. Black House is also a great team (Rodrigo Nogueira and Anderson Silva would be an excelent to choice to hel developing those skills). Osu!

I have the feeling many of you are underestimating Sakuraba. Even though i want Nakahara to win this as well, i'm perfectly aware that Sakuraba, despite his age, is still the favourite here.
I've see two Kyokushin men in K-1 MMA rules going down fast mostly because they didn't have enough training. I just hope this is not the same case here. Who knows, maybe Nakahara will pull a submission and surprise us all. =D Osu!

PowerofOne
You right about Minotauro, he left BTT....I forgot that when I wrote the previous post. He's now at BlackHouse, and when he left BTT it caused huge arguments in the BJJ community here in Brazil. Well interesting fact....the gym he just built was robbed....can you believe?...People came in and stolled equipament from the gym at night, like 4 or 5 weeks ago.....Sometimes I think Brazil is really a piece of s....country. The guy goes there....get tons of money....built an excelent gym for himself, his team and along with that teaches poor kids for FREE......and gets robbed.....only in Brazil.....Sometimes I think the worst in this country is the people.....well too bad. Back to the topic, I really think that go against Sakuraba will be really difficult....and he will have to work hard on spraws....just like Lidel does or Mauricio Smith did against Coleman.....or even Vanderlei Silva did for a long time. But I don't think it's impossible...specially because I heard from a girl in my office that knows Andrews since childhood (and trained with him) that he is training with Shihan Chiquinho (Francisco Filho) for a few years.now...So....I suppose they have something prepared...as a surprise...and maybe he is not so "freshmen" in the groud as we all think... It will be very...very interesting..... Thanks for your comments....ossu!!!! |

Sublimo, No offence taken man....I see what ou mean....
I'm a huge fan of Chute Boxe too, in the maches against BTT i allways cheared for then...I Love the Way Wanderley fights, Anderson fights...Shogun and Ninja...and I also love the people of Curitiba (city where CB is located)....I don't like the BJJ fighters from Rio de Janeiro very much...their attitude is sick (with a few exceptions....)... I agree with you Rudimar is a great coach....but Rafael Cordeiro is the "brain" behind Chute Boxe's trainning.....and right now he is travelling too much.....people are sayng that the trainnings are not the same anymore....Anyway.....I'm a huge fan of then (CB) and I hope they get back on their feet....thei deserve to be the best team again. Well...Back to the topic...I still put my money in Nakahara......I'm sure Chiquinho(Shihan Filho) and Shihan Isobe have something prepared to shok the MMA's world..... It's great to talk too you Sublimo. Osu!!!! |

Whatever the outcome, this is a pioneering move for the younger generation of karateka, to allow them to see possibilities that may be available to them.

Some additional cards are in the event. One of them is
Taiei Kin(Seido Kaikan) vs Minowaman |

Osu!
Looking at that pic, there seems to be a bit of a size difference there, with Sakuraba being bigger. I think that will be a major factor. Osu!

Would this fight be sanctioned if there was a big difference in weight? Anyone have the official stats?

What did Nakahara had to say about his preparation for this fight? Does he feel ready and confident? I really hope he is. It would be very inspiring if he won this match, but the fact that he's taking a shot at MMA is already inspiring by itself. It shows the true spirit of Kyokushin Karate. Always keep challenging ourselves and never quit learning. and fighting, not matter what comes in the way. I that's that's a huge part of what defines us as human beings.

Did they have Sakuraba standing on a platform when the took the picture that is posted above?? That perceived size difference is not reflected in the official stats, that is for sure!!

No idea about that particular picture, but this is one in which they were standing on the same level for a fair comparison. Indeed Nakahara is taller.
