I have tried barley tea. It can be prepared even with cold water. I remember in the manga about Sosai he said he liked this tea.

I'm a tea drinker. However, I don't have the patience to strain my own tea, so I usually get the bagged stuff, which must be quite manufactured. Anyone try Ten Ren teas? De-lish.

I love green tea, camomile is good also if you have trouble getting to sleep after training late, liqourice can be alright if youre into it, apparently Liqourice extract assists the body with keeping you hydrated.
My wifes favourite is just lemon slice in boiling water, not terribly exciting. Dandylion tea is the stuff you need when youre injured, it helps flush toxins out of the body and assists healing. Actually on that note I was informed by my genius chiro/healer that when you get bruised up after tournament your body starts stripping your healthy muscles to replace the damaged protien elsewhere, apparently a good way to speed up the whole process, aside from keepng your protien in take high, is to eat fresh pineapple, apparently it contains ?"proetinase"? (sic) and its what boxers use to help remove damaged/denatured protiens from injury sites! mmmmmm i love pineapple.(lumps)

Green Tea: Bagged VS Whole leaf & Macrobiotics
I am quite fond of green tea. I try and stick to whole leaf as I have been told that the quality of the leaves is better than those used for the bagging process. Also, I have been told that the bagging process that the tea is exposed to which apparently heats the leaves, destroys or weakens certain of the tea's beneficial qualities. - Can anybody comment further on this?
On the topic of tea... As westerners, we drink HUGE mugs by comparison to the traditional Japanese way of drinking small cups. We also gulp, while they sip/savour their tea. All I have managed to find out about this difference was written by Sakurazawa Nyoiti (western people know him as George Ohsawa). He was the founder of the macrobiotics principals of eating/diet. One of his books on the topic of macrobiotics is titled "You are all Sanpaku", a very interesting read. Although this book is quite old, all I ever thought I knew about diet was completely smashed in to pieces by this book ! Is there anyone here who follows the macrobiotic pricipals of eating? OSU! |

Consumption of green tea also include bad side.
Some research in England proof that drinking tea regularly make people anaemic. In fact, a proteine in tea, which is called in French "Théine", is responsible of non iron adsorption by organism. But iron is very important for construction of nuclear hemoglobin : heme (Hemoglobin is a molecule which constitute a big part of red blood cells). Heme is able to fix height O2 molecule, and permit to supply muscle and other organ in oxygene. So drinking green tea isn't so good that it seems. For dispose of this kind of problem, you can increase your red meat consumption, but doing that is also not good for health because it increases reject of toxic waste for organism... It's a vicious circle ! Like you see, if we eat food in disproportionate quantity, it could have some risk for our organism. I think the best way to keep good health is to find the reasonable quantity of each food we eat. I won't gone into details because my english isn't very clear, so it's difficult to disperse biochemestry notions. If people are interested, i could find some links which deal with "Anaemic effect of tea" (Reviews, papers and others which you can easily find on Pubmed). I hope i have help somebody. zrx. Your english is fine- you have managed well to get your point across. Thank you for making the effort to do this in a language that causes you pain!It is not just green tea that affects iron absorbtion. Most black teas (Camelia sinensis) contain xanthines that bind the haem-iron that we need to absorb. If you drink tea after you have eaten steak, you miss out on the iron! Iron absorbtion can be helped by having vitamin C with your meal - orange juice, capsicum, or even a tablet. ![]()

Green tea is an acquired taste, and I had plenty of time to acquire that taste while living in Japan!!
Currently I am alternating between pitchers of cold barley tea (mugi cha) and corn tea (which I picked up in Korea) in my fridge... vapor
