Good question this. I always eat three hours before training, it works for me. The problem with tournaments is that I will not know in advance when my fight is up. I usually bring snacks to eat while I am waiting, sometimes I eat to much and sometimes to little. How can this best be solved?

red bull is a bad idea!!

Don't ask me how I know, because I won't admit to drinking it before a grading and feeling like crap as it sapped all of the moisture out of my mouth 5 minutes into the grading!!.....don't ask me, 'cause I won't admit it!!

foods
hi,

grading and tournament are different things. depending on what grade you going for, grading lasts a little bit longer...

take your last meal two hours before your first fight (sometimes difficult to say, when you going to fight...). during the tournament take only snacks (some kinds of bars with carbo and protein; bananas; apples are not so good i heard. they will take down your endurance). half an hour before a fight take a drink with fast working carbohydrates and maybe some bcaa´s. just before a fight, if you are tired or not is not the question, take 200ml of COCA COLA. it works at the best, when you don´t drink any coffee or coffein-drinks the last week before the tournament.

this is a plan, not only depending on food, but with allowed things.

get up and have a reasonably good breakfast, by that I mean cereal, fruit, juice, piece of toast.

biggest problem with tournaments - when will it be your turn to fight?

ideally, try and have a small snack e.g. piece of fruit with water etc.

If you win your first fight, try to get some fluids in immediately after (not too much).

Yes gradings are different story, need to be carbo loading way before grading day.

thats my fifty cents worth - at the end of the day its up to you, do something that suits your body and suits you mentally.
