Honestly I dont drink and I never have. I just dont find the taste of alcohol appealing. I've tried to drink before, but I drank a ton, didnt get drunk, and hated the taste. I just couldnt see myself spending that much money on stuff that didnt work on me and that I hated the taste of anyway.

bro I was drinking hard liquor. Everclear and OJ. Everclear is over 100 proof. I've just got a very efficient liver apparently.

Osu!

There's no drinker like an old drinker. Just as we condition our hands, those fellas condition their bodies with power pickling.

I remember my brother foolishly going one for one on vodka shots with a grizzled veteran of the bottle. I saw him later without shoes or shirt, KO'd under the table. The professional was still drinking.

i agree with this,Beer kills brain cells overtime i hear.and i think it does downgrade your skills and you start to get that "Drunkard" look and vibe to you also.Beer has benefits like it makes it easier to socialize for most people.but i think the negatives DEFINITLY out-weigh the positives. i have drunk beer before, although i have gotten a buzz i've never gotten "drunk" before and when i did drink i drunk "light-beers".i just felt that it all wasn't worth it.i saw people that drank and i really didn't want to end up like most of the people i knew who drank.i need to be focused for Martial Arts and too much Beer can take away from this.it's cool if people drank in moderation i guess, but i'd rather not even get too far in...

I agree with what your saying Kyokushin_Practioner, alcohol does kill brain cells and can cause damage to the brain, however I would suggest this is only after heavy sustained use. I also notice that after a few beers (1-2) after work I find it harder to concentrate at work the following day.... possibly related??? Perhaps this explains why during football training where I live many of the teams have an alchohol free policy throughout the entire training season. If they get caught, they dont get to play...

yes, that's why people who are drunk usually have slured speech and they don't know what there doing most of the time.that's why people do such crazy things when there drunk because there not in the right state of mind.lol as i said,if someone drinks every now and then i think that's cool, but don't let it get to the point your killing brain cells and it's ruining your life and The Way of the Martial Arts is all im saying.

I like the predator and heard animal argument for alcohol.
A predator seeking pray in a herd of animal chooses the weakest and sickest animal -which leaves the herd healthier and stronger after it is gone. similarly alcohol kills the weakest braincells first, leaving the brain healthier and better.

(note: not serious. Joke).

Seriously. Small quantities of alcohol taken regularly actually seems to have a positive effect on the body. It seems that there there is some sort of relaxing effect and increased cardiovascular activity. It is only when the quantities increase that the detrimental effects (liver poisoning and braincell death) start.
The problem is knowing the limit of, and not taking more than, the "small quantities".
And getting drunk is never good.

Here is some help for "knowing the limit"

I know this is a cheery thread, and mostly a good laugh. But sometimes, people worry about their drinking...

This is a link to a short questionnaire that you can self-score and use to guide decision-making about whether you need to cut down, or even seek treatment for your alcohol intake.

BHGP - World Health Organisation Alcohol Questionnaire

it is called the "AUDIT" questionnaire - stands for Alcohol use Disorders Identification Test. It is a WHO questionnaire designed for screening, and validated across six different countries.

if you or someone who cares about you has been worried about your drinking - take the questionnaire, and if you are worried about the result, discuss it with your doctor - it could save your life!

i used to go to a dojo on a wednesday night which concentrated on sparring and knockdown, it was always a very demanding "session" that attracted people from other styles who were always made welcome.............you guessed it, we all headed for the pub afterwards,it was great, hard training+beer and it had the advantage of getting to know the people i trained with.....which was nice when i met them at other places and we had "things in common"

Osu! Hasbeen,

We had something similar. Called "A quiet one.", post-training, it was a good and worthy ally in the process that is training.

Hasbeen and Dent

We had that too - always after a hard sweaty session hit the pub for a couple of pints. After a hard grading - hit the pub for a couple of pints.

As everyone said if its in moderation its fine. Im going to hold my hand up here and say that my drinking has not always been in moderation (by certain standards) but I think im a little more sensible now I am older. As Mrs Blokes due date is nearing I have gone tee total until after the baby is born but I did have one last night out last monday week with a good drinking buddy - a few pints and a couple of wee ones and as I ate sensibly and took plenty of fluids on before hand I was fine the next day.

Yes, the question, "Do you like beer?" is not to be confused with, "Do you like falling down a flight of stairs because you tripped on your XXL feet, thanks to being so full of beer that a drunken frat boy it trying to stick a tap into your belly?"

A couple of well-deserved beers on occasion are a good reward for a job well done. Tasty and cold. (With apologies to those from the Arctic North. )

Osu!
