are you saying the problem of steroid abuse is bigger than the cheating so we should concentrate on that? I'm thinking or writing to my Council/ The sports council about the idea of a compulsory poster in every gym, do you guys already have such a poster and do you think it's a good idea?

Excellent initiative, tmd! We don't have a poster, but we get these pamphlets from Anti Doping Danmark, with a bit of information about doping, specific rules in specific tournaments, new drugs on the list, etc.

Potential Poster Text
Off the top of my head I have come up with the text of a potential poster, it's not 100% as you will see
I just thought with the original idea still fresh in my head I'd jot down some idea's - Input please...particularly keen for those in the PRO camp and the medical pro's out there to chip in (is there any % data about?)Remember the aim of this would not be to judge anyone but to inform them possibly guide them away from what is an illegal and risky practice but more over I would want them to read it and feel like they knew a little more of the pro's and cons than they did before, I'd even like to put more on the Reward side to make it more balanced but getting huge was the only benefit I could think of Remember this would (hopefully ) end up displayed in public so there would be legislation to comply with!Reward: Quicker muscle mass: Fantastic, although be careful, some of the quick bulking up you see around you is actually water retention Risks: Disfigurement from acne: Being covered in spots is no joke, it can be physically and mentally scaring. Shrunken testicles: I thought you wanted to get bigger? Potential of infertility: This does not come back, what's done is done you can never have kids Roid rage: Has lead to users being so uncontrollably violent they did things they have forever regretted including murder Depression: Either by not getting the rewards you expected of a direct side effect, depression can cause relationships to breakdown Suicide: Depression among users has been known to lead to suicides Heart Disease: Heavy usage can increase the risk of permanent damage Liver failure: Heavy usage can increase the risk of permanent damage, if you drink too this could be multiplied Kidney failure: All drugs have to pass through the kidneys, this increased work load takes it's toll and can lead to serious problems HIV/AIDS: If you inject using shared needles there is a real risk of catching a fatal disease Death: Some people are susceptible, these are not prescribed drugs, you have not had a medical so how do you know it's not you Getting nicked: All Steroids are illegal, if your job, sport or hobby relies on you having a clear record, ask yourself how you'd cope without it. BANNED: If you do any form of competitive sports you will be cheating, being caught cheating will change your life forever. Ask yourself why you want to use them, is the REWARD of saving a few months hard graft really worth all the RISKS? You can keep telling yourself you are somehow immune to all these things but as the spots come out, your wee darkens and your partner looks at you in fear as you scream at them and punch a hole in another door - start your off cycle and get clean. If you think it's too late, it never is. Go to your Doctor they will help you, what you have done may be illegal but that doesn't mean you can't call for help.

I like the idea tmd! I know there are always going to be the hardcore few that will always try these things, but even if it makes a few stop and think about the consequencies it will be a good thing.
There are many dodgy gyms around however that suppliment their income selling steroids who would not want to put any anti doping messages up! ![]()

Well written, tmd, but I think this much text is better suited in a pamphlet. Didn't we just establish that your target group is not the sharpest of knives? Unlikely that they will stare at a poster for a long time - posters are made to get your attention.
You have several good points, though. I think it would be great if there was several posters, each one with the goal of getting attention in mind, while making your message clear, then refering to a website or pamphlet for more information. See this French campaign against AIDS for example. It immediatly catches your attention, and force you to think. It also stirs emotions; many people find this type of advertizing disgusting, but that just means that the campaign has been a smashing succes - many do not realize that . Get the message across, pure and simple. Once you have their attention, point them to where they can learn more.Contemplating moving these posts to a new thread.

![]() That's a good idea, TMD. I'm sure some gyms may shy away from it, but each person who reconsiders is a plus. Osu!

What you said it great, but I agree, it needs to be more succinct. No one, especially kids, will read that, unless you post it over every urinal.
You need a picture, a catchy tagline, and 'for more info go to www...'.Hell, use the picture of the acne guy in this thread, with the tagline ' yeah, I wanted to be a stud too', or 'Chicks dig muscles, too bad they don't dig me', or 'juice = weaksauce', or 'This is a shortcut?'. For more info, go to www.gettheroidout.com. |

This was just the basis of the text. It would form part of a fully designed with some graphics to try and get over most of the points etc...

Work it up and post it here. Again, your points are valid; if you can get it across with minimum effort and in a clear fashion, well, awesome!

tmd - not sure where you are with this idea at this point. I'd be happy to get involved. Please email me the info so that i can have a closer look at it and will be happy to give you my input.
Mind you, on the other hand you might want to get in touch with your local sports council and see if you can get some support from them in developing this (e.g. funds, access to technology, the possibility of involving young people in the design of the poster etc.) - there could be alot of possibilities that you can try before you actiually embark on this.
