Inspired by Buckette - my experience in Tokyo
I also visited Tokyo last week for a flying visit & had an inspiring time. It was good to go with first timers & re-live the awe at the place. I fell in love with Tokyo this time (took 4 goes) & am really missing the food and the bath house!

I went to see a Smack Girl (female MMA) show in the famous Korakuen hall at the Tokyo Dome & was a blast. Crazy characters mixed with awesome fighting (esp. the groundwork). Megumi Fujii took apart the aussie girl we were supporting in less than 20 sec so we got the Tokyo hospital experience too!

I also visited Ichigeki Plaza & did a beginners kickboxing session with Jason 'Supercharge' Vemoa, a NZ kickboxing world champ who the IKO enlisted to teach the Kyokushin guys how to kickbox. I walked into the plaza & sitting in the cafe were Ray Sefo, Glaube Feitosa, Jason, Fai (another coach) and a couple of others. Jason is a super human being & gave me (and my Sensei) a tour of the whole place. Shihan Narushima was there (got a pic ) and also got a pic with the K1 GP 2005 trophy It was a very good night!

Also was lucky enough to catch a Shooto (pro MMA) show. That was amazing. Best MMA I'd EVER seen & such a low key event! Maybe 2-300 spectators!

I highly recommend, if you're in Tokyo for any event in your own code, sniff out what others are on that week - it's a fight city & if you have an open mind you'll have a great time!

Osu,

Don't forget Sato Juku has their World Tournament on April 2007 (i.e., Point & K.O.) open to all Martial Art Forms. Kancho Sato was the first Kyokushinkaikan World Champion defeating Kancho Royama in the finals. Also, he earned his blackbelt from Sosai Masutatsu Oyama in a year. Imagine the kind of fight.

Definitely, Japan would be at its best for Martial Arts practitioners in 2007.

I am saving what I could to join our fighters on April (Sato Juku World Tournament) and November (9th World Tournament). I hope my target budget is met.

Osu!

Try and find a working-men-hotel... loads of men work in tokyo but live far away... they will sleep in cheap motels during the week (but very clean, everything is very clean in japan). I found one in middle of the center of tokyo for about 50 dollars a night (thats less than 50 euro)... Cant even get them that cheap here in the netherlands.... subway travel is cheap and they will take you everywhere... even taxi`s are cheaper than around here.

Living, working and training there combined is difficult, you need special work permits to be able to get a job.

As far as i know IKO1 has an uchi-desi program, if i was elligable for that i would just work here (in my country) and save up for it as much as i can and just go there and train till i ran out of money
