Thanks for all the great help and motivation I'm getting by reading you all!
Osu!
I started Kyokushin a month ago, a married woman with 3 children, closer to 40 than to 30 (but I look 10 yrs younger!! ) ... people keep telling me I'm just too old for "such crap" or that I should at least choose a sport "more feminine" - no chance for them discouragig me, especially having the support I find here ![]() I have always had a heart for martial arts and I keep regretting I never pushed hard enough in my early days to get the chance (in the Hungary of the 70's and 80's it wasn't all that common) - maybe you know this tiny urging and prickling in the back of your scull that keeps you somewhat restless and would just not let itself suppressed for long and keeps coming back again and again no matter what you are busy with. So now that I finally succeeded in persuading (as I first thought, 'at least') my children to take up Kyokushin, I took a deep breath and joined the Dojo myself too, I guess this is what people call 'a dream coming true' That was 4 weeks ago and at about the same time I started reading around here, finding tons of most valuable material on all the aspects I was pondering about, for which I'm more than grateful to you all Arigato gozaimashita! Dear szalmalang,
Taking care of three children is already a proof of someone having a lot of courage, faith and love and I feel sorry for those who have tried to talk you our of whatever new area you want to expand in your life. Enjoy your training and day by day you will find yourself a different person in body, mind and spirit. Yes this forum is totally politics-free, and you will not be hearing the usual my-style-better-then-yours crap as members from different organizations and style are all opened-minded and willing to share with each other their experience in training and other stuff. By the way may I suggest you to also check out the "female fighters talk" section? There you will meet other kyokushin ladies(and gentlemen too, as it has been "infiltrated"), sometimes they will understand better the pressure that women have (like having children, prejudice in a "men's world" like kyokushin) and they can give you very good advice. I guess in the ladies section there is a special introduction thread or something (not sure cause it is not "my turf"). Remember in kyokushin, training hard always comes first! OSU! (please start to understand and remember the meaning of this word)

Hi Szalmalang
Well I have to say that it's who is the inspiring person. I'm in my early 40s and went in the opposite direction. I practised kyokushin as a child and teen, took it up again really seriously in my late 20s and early 30s with IKO1 and then gave up training completely after having a child. I know what you mean about that 'prickling in the back of your skull'. I still have that and I know I have to go back some day. Your story inspires me to make it sooner rather than later. I think it's especially brave of you, because I'm sure the Hungarian dojos, like those in any of the eastern European countries, are really tough and take their training seriously. I wish you and your kids lots of joy and pride on the kyokushin path. Sok szerencsét! Osu!!! |

Thank you, Bloke and vapor!
![]() Dear kiai, You do me an honour. I'm glad if I could in any way contribute to your making up your mind. If the prickling is still there, then it surely is the right decision to go back. It is not an easy step and it needs quite a lot of organizing skill and extra energy, especially when you have to upset a long time settled life and reconcile training, work, family and so on - so I wish you all the perseverance and all the support from your people you will need for that! Osu! (p.s.: You make me curious, how come you know 'Sok szerencsét'? ) |

And obviously it didn't return as a result the famous Hungarian-English Dictionary from the Monty Pythons Otherwise you could believe it means 'Let me caress your cute *ss' or 'May I spit on your hamburger?' or the like ![]() |

Monty Python? You know about Monty Python in Hungary? I thought that was a solely 'British' type of humour which wouldn't translate well? I should add welcome to the forums szalmalang!

Monty Python Pops up just when you least expect it. Much like the Spanish Inquisition.
....No one Expects the Spanish Inquisition.

nice...good job and keep it up...
It is so great when you see ppl like you doing things like this. Kyokushin in hungaria is strong , there are great masters over there. I had the chance to train with many of them (Shihan Furko, Shihan Adamy, Shihan Somogyi, Sensei Brezovai, Sensei Halasz, stb. ) do you know any of them ?
