First of all Lucy I'm glad that I'm the first person that came to your mind when you saw this
![]() The video is definately not sped up, but understand that the tetris he's playing is very different to the one we play: - He can instantaneously rotate pieces however he likes whereas we have to tap the up arrow up to three times to get the desired shape. - He can move pieces horizontally by applying pressure to a stick whereas again we have to tap the left and right arrows. - He can move a piece horizontally and rotate it at the same time, but we can only press one key at a time. This means that the piece is falling while we choose our shape, then as we choose where it should land. - He can see three pieces ahead, whereas we can only see one. Don't ask how many games I've lost because I was waiting for the long ones... The pieces aren't actually falling that fast on their own: he's slamming them down on his own. Different tetris implementations might give you more points for slamming a piece down, but standard across versions is the fact that waiting for the piece to drop is boring. Even at full speed, pieces still fall too slowly (unless they're near the top). By slamming the pieces down he's speeding up the game and making it more interesting (in the actual sense of the word, not interesting in the sense "Hey... THAT'S interesting...") for himself. To get an indication of the actual speed at which the blocks are falling, take a look at ~2:40 where he makes a mistake. All of a sudden the piece seems to levitate in the air while he places it. I wasn't sure how good he really was until the blocks became invisible. I can't yet remember the position of all blocks at such high speeds. Although our games are different, he would probably be able to adjust to our variation much faster than I could to his (I imagine getting a perfect feel for the stick would take heaps of practise). So... he's better than me ![]() [I broke out of my depression almost immediately as I quickly realised that tetris is probably his game. I'd bet my bottom penny he wouldn't be able to touch me at my games ] |
