DiadoJuku Equipment i.e. For KyokushinKan?
Hello everyone, I am interested in purchasing the new Kudo head gear from the Diado organization, but I wanted to check with all of you, in the event that some of you might have found it somewhere else. I suspect that they might be making it somewhere else due to the different colors that I have seen. I.e. Blue, Red and White.
I am researching this equipment so that I can match it against some of the boxing head gears that have been development throughout the years in United States. I will be opening a Dojo in North Carolina sometime next year, and I am going to take our current Kyokushin into a similar type of Kumite as our counter parts have done with DaidoJuku. Stay tuned, as the training is becoming very interesting from my perspective moving into Judo throws, Jujitsu grappling and Kyokushin Kumite. Let me know if there is another site, that has this headgear if you find it. OSU! |

The old helmet used in daido is of the supersafe brand, and are not made specifically for daido. They are used in many Bogu kumite (armored kumite) styles.
They are available in USA through several chains, but are very expensive. try Home they have a slightly cheaper copy called "Koshiki headgear" They can also import the original supersafe helmet for you if you contact them) You can order them from japan from Ši“¬‹Z—p•i@Ši“¬‹ZƒvƒƒOƒbƒYƒVƒ‡ƒbƒv ƒCƒTƒ~ the website is in japanese, but you can contact them though email in english. With shipping it gets horribly expensive though. The new helmets developed recently specifically for daido juku kudo, are not yet avalable (except possibly directly from the Daido juku Hombu)

Osu!! You guys are awesome!! Great Job!
So am currious, are the same material used. An secondly would wouldn't we use a head gear that would protect the face completely from blow, like the Everlast gear instead of one that has plastic in the face? I have used extensively the one mentioned above, and you do not get the blows at all on the face when hit. And vision is extremely good. What I like about the everlast and TuffWear head gears is that they really take impact well to the jaw area.
When I have looked at the knockout in DaidoJuku a great deal of the knockouts are from men getting hit in the jaw area, by hooks and Mawashigeri. Your comments and thoughts? Again what am trying to determine is what will be a good piece of head gear in which you could do all out kumite, as is Daido but without the face shield so that you do not need any gloves and be safe when punching to the head. ![]() ![]() |

I know that there are a few threads about daido juku headgear from the summer/fall floating around...may want to do a quick search on those too.
I actually stopped into Daido Juku HQ in Tokyo when I was there in September---this was right before they announced their new headgear. vapor

If you are going to have a helmet protect your face (and not only your skull) you need either a plexiglas visor, or a bar visor. And if you plan to fight without gloves you need good protection for the face. Bar visors restricts vision a LOT. Plexiglas visors gives great range of vision (unless they fog up from your breath). The problem is that both have the potential to mess up a bareknuckle fist (especially the bars), which is why Daido juku guys use MMA type gloves. Without them they would probably cut up their hands very fast. Daido juku helmets are mostly there to protect from cuts and broken noses. Its all a tradeoff. You cant have all the advantages of bareknuckle fighting with the safety of equipment.

We use the supersafe in tournaments (Zendokai)
About Visibility: Fogging is not really a problem. There are holes for breathing also a open slot between the plexiglass and the jaw area. However, breathing is heavier in the SS. This means a fighter has to work on his breath control and cardio when fighting in SS. A bigger problem is scratching. The SS is used many times, shipped in trunks of cars and handled by many people. The ones we use a tournaments are all badly scratched. I would suggest using a dedicated case (thin bag) for each SS to keep from scratching. About the Jaw. Not very well protected. I have started to wear mouthpiece under the SS. If a mawashi geri hits from slighty under/side it is close to KO and teeth can be hurt. General: Gloves is to protect the hands of the striker more than the face of the strikee. Fighting with SS you can use pretty much any gloves, from thin knuckle protectors, MMA (open finger) or even boxing gloves. Technical: I learned in my recent tournament that hitting your opponent in the face can be easier when he is in a SS. This is because his "face" (the plexiglass) is 5-6 cm more forward than he is used to. So he has not he same routine protecting it. Most fighters do not spar a lot in the SS, it is mostly only used in tournaments. It is for sale in Japan by Isami: (scroll down) i¬Zpi@i¬ZvObYVbv CT~

Karateka's thank you very much for your input on this subject. It is most welcome! I think am going to order the headgear directly from DaidoJuku so that at least I have the original to conduct my studies. If anyone knows where else I can purchase a original SS here in the United States please let me know. I will be going to Japan for the first time in March with my Sensei so I will drop by the Daido headquarters to break a sweat..
Once again, I really appreciate all the help from every one of you. My next thread will be on a very important subject... Yes you guessed it.. The Kihon, and how it relates to Boxing... OSU! |
