kick boxing for cardio only.
Has it ever seemed that the only kind of kick boxing is the kind that they do in a gym just for exercise.
I wonder why it is like that. Seems to be just like the Mcdojo case in traditional arts.

Just a random question.

It's not really a McDojo. It's more of a way to get your cardio in a different way. They don't really advertise it as a way to fight only as a new way to lose weight. It's just like tae bo, not intended for combat or self-defense only for health.

I think you should just get on the treadmill/into the pool/ onto a bike if you want to get cardio.

As long as people aren't given the impression that they are being taught self-defense then I think it is fine. It may also encourage those not inclined towards combat sports to have a look and try it out.

But once the instructor starts telling his student how effective the techniques will be on the street then you have to start asking questions.

I vaguely recall a story told to me by a friend where he joined the kickboxing class at the local gym and the instructor started to do just that - when questioned the instructor offered to demonstrate the technique but fell on his behind while doing it...

I agree. I do not think there is anything wrong with the people who do it, but I think the fighting art is what should be taught in gyms, The cardio vesion is a great way to loose wieght and is good for a lot of people, but I think they should call it something different so when someone looks for it, they won't just get in a exercise class. Just my opinion.
