Seido Kaikan is Ishii's group. Ishii followed Hideyuki Ashihara leaving Kyokushin. However, Ishii left Ashihara shortly after and started his out group, Seido Kaikan. Seido Kaikan hosted many style vs style matches. Changpuek Kiatsongrit frequently fought in Seido matches before he went to K-1. K-1 was Ishii's concept of taking "Glove Karate" to another step. Afore mentioned by earlier posters, Seido Kaikan has little to no kata and focuses on the knockdown part of karate. Their karate matches, however, still had tameshiwari as one of the determing factors for a win.
Seido Juku is Tadashi Nakamura's organizaiton. It's based in New York, and while it still has the martial value of Kyokushin, Seido focuses more on charater development, meditation, and training rather than hard-core sparring. Make no mistake though, Seido Juku karateka can fight effectively, but it's not that their main intent. Neither is better, both have their own comparative strengths and weaknesses in my opinion. |

Outside of Japan, Seido Kaikan is known as Shodo Kaikan to avoid being confused with Seido Juku. As for schools, I'd recommend calling here for info:
Seido Kaikan Chubu Honbu Hirokoji Park Bldg. 2F 19-20, Nishiki 2-chome Naka-ku, Nagoya-shi 460-0003 Japan 052-221-9555 (011 +81-52-221-9555) |

FYI, Seidokaikan membership is not limited to karate. They also develop kickboxers for K-1. There are Seidokaikan members who haven't even put dogi before.

As a shodan in Seidokaikan I can tell you that there has never been a focus on expanding the karate side internationally. Kancho Ishii's main focus has been on promoting his events since 1990. When I trained at the honbu, I think we did kata 1 evening only (and that was after a year of training there). the main focus is on tournament fighting.
I do know that Seido karate does enjoy a strong following in NZ, though. |

Dear spanky11,
Can you tell us more about Seidokaikan in NZ? How large is the following? And do you know if Koyasu Shingo is still doing K-1/Seido Karate? Seems that he has disappeared from the fighting stage since 2004 K-1 Seoul. OSU!

Regarding Koyasu Shingo, I have no idea. He could be training on his own.. |
