Gyakushin karate?
Anyone know anything about this style?
I dont know anything, exept that its founder (I THINK his name is Teramoto Yamazaki) comes out of kyokushin in 70-80ies, and that they fight with knockdown rules.

What i found that it must be Terutomo Yamazaki and that he won the first
All Japan in 1969 . Terutomo Yamazaki's Gyakushin Karate Sparring Basics (1vcd/jap/$10) (info wisely removed ...) must be in Singapore dollars then , Looking further ...

Not much info on gyakushin, just a some bio of its founder
Yamazaki Terumoto (Shihan) was born in yamanashi-ken(prefecture) of japan in 1947/7/31. He joined kyokushinkaikan as he attended his first year of high school in yamanashi. While he was training together with Ashihara Hideyuki, he also fought in kickboxing matches under the name "yamanashi no yamazaru" (the monkey of yamanashi). He became the champion of the inargural all-japan tournament while studying in nihon univeristy in 1969. The death match between yamazaki ("nichidai no ryu", or "the dragon of nihon uni") and soeno ("josai no tora", or "the tiger of josai), which ended after a gruelling extension, set new standard in kyokushin history. His results in all-japan are: 2nd place - 1970 4th place - 1972 2nd place - 1973 He retired in 1973 and started his career of teaching young people in 1977. In 1996 he became independent and established "gyakushin-kaikan". OSU!

From "the speciality of gyakushin" in their website (still not much info though)
"karate, as an empty-handed art of self-defence, has a long history. the dangerous elements and speical "budo spirit" has made it hard for karate to be accepted into mainstream sport. in recent years, this gap has been bridged with the efforts of our many sempais. with an emphasis of safety, many tournaments have been successfully held. however, this over-emphasis of tournament fighting has stripped away the original character of karate. gyakushin-kai will follow such teachings of Oyama Sosai as "karate which a small person can beat a big person" and "karate that can kill with one strike". yamazaki kancho will also pursue the goal of "magnificient karate (karei na karate)". our aim is to teach karate that is beautiful and strong. OSU!

What is their website? I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have anymore information on Terutomo Yamazaki? Like why is he known as the Dragon of Kyokushin and his rival Yoshiji Soeno, the Tiger of Kyokushin? Is it their particular styles of fighting or just the comparison to the Yin + Yang, Tiger and Dragon rivalry?

I do know that Yamazaki and Soeno traveled together to Thailand and fought against Nak Muays. Soeno founded Shidokan, a very broad and efficient approach to fighting based on knockdown karate, kickboxing, and grappling from his encounters against other styles. I imagine that Yamazaki integrated his experiences in Kickboxing and Muay Thai along with the lessons that he learned from Ashihara (Ashihara was known for his teaching methodology in applying angular motion and footwork while sparring), into his personal expression of Kyokushin-derived karate.

kyokushin and is translated as the other truth . (or flip side of the ultimate truth ). Correct me if i misunderstood

I love the brotherhood that you all keep within the kyokushin family is excellent, I wish I could say the samething about other martial art styles that I have had practice, and also kudos to you all for showing the world what real karate is all about, specially to the daido juku ka's who are putting competition karate at the level of judo competion.
I by that I mean that the karate techniques and physical conditioning of its practioners is most superior in quality, and that's what I was refering to when I said same level of judokas, maybe I err because I have only seen mediocre dojos where the guys in there cannot even do 20 push-ups on their fists. |
