Shinkarate?
I dont know much about this one. So I hope someone can provide details.
I know that it is gloved karate (kickboxing in Gi) and that it is somehow connected to kyokushin. I also know that they arrange the k-2 tournaments in japan (thanks for that kakatootoshi). Other than that I am drawing a blanc. Is it a style or just a competition organization? History? k-2 details? Anything?

Dear Martin H,
Yes I also hope someone can shed more light about this organization . Let me also give all I know. Shinkaratedo Renmei (Shinkaratedo Federation) was founded by Mr. Kamimura Junichi and he used to be an official (promotional department or something like that) in the All-Japan Kickboxing Federation. I am not sure if he had kyokushin or karate ties before he started shinkaratedo (think he was a student from the original Oyama Dojo). Shinkaratedo has an "affiliation scheme" and various schools and dojos, some in the "renmei" while some are not, fight in their tournaments. They have a "honbu office", I am not sure if they teach as I do not see information about their individual dojos. Brief introduction to K-2 rules (from their website): Tournaments/One-matches: Basically 2mins. One extension allowed in tournaments. If decison cannot be made, the lighter fighter will be announced the winner. For a final, it is 3mins, and two 3min-extensions are allowed if needed. One interesting thing is one you have to kick at least 8 times above-waist or points will be deducted. The waza-ari, ippon system is similar to kyokushin (3-second as the line). One-handed grab with hiza geri to the head is allowed but two-handed grab (like muay thai) is forbidden. (But you are not allowed to grab the gi or the limbs of your opponent). It would be nice if someone knows if shinkaratedo itself has a syllabus and if yes, what do they teach. OSU!

After a lot of searching, all I can find is a comment by Sensei Pettas on his forum that it is amature kickboxing in karate Gi, that its weird, but is popular in japan. I also found this clip on youtube:

The above vid is marked as Shinkarate K2
this one http://www.dailymotion.com/tag/japan...rs-first-match is marked as Shinkarate K3. The difference seems that in K2, the only "visible" protective gear is the gloves, while in K3 you wear amateur boxing headgear and a body vest. A "light" version, so to speak. It would be interesting to know how big this type of event is in japan and how it is spreading. Apparently there is a K4 too. Found this site, but I cant make out much. http://www.netpro.ne.jp/~s-renmei/

Yuya Yamamoto is a Shin Karate fighter that has competed in K-1. I know he lost to Tatsuji last year by TKO.
