The site says that it was founded by Manny Matias who was a student of Shigeru Oyama until Shigeru stepped down from the World Oyama Karate.

I never heard that there was a split - simply that he was leaving his brother to run teh organisation - anyone Oyama karate people confirm this?

Jan Dydoch is/was one of the higher graded World Oyama representatives in Europe, i didnt know he left shiguru/yasuhiko.

Is the kanreikai a full split (did the organisation go +/- 50/50) or a split off? (smaller part that left as a group)

The story as i know it (lonewolf probably is better informed than I).
S.Oyama stepped down from his duties as head of W.O.K.O. for personal reasons,and passed them to his brother Y.Oyama.
Many of the senior students,mainly thouse from northern U.S.A. disagreed with this step,and Kan Rei Kai was born.
To the best of my knowledge the groups are about equal.
The difference btween the groups is organizational only.Techniqe remains the same,as are Kata.
To me it is always sad when groups split up in a non friendly way.
