Ashihara Online Training?
Ive found a site from South Africa that has a Home Study Program in Ashihara Karate. I know these programs are generally frowned upon but its the only option I would have for any Kyokushin or derivative within hundreds of miles. Anyone know anything about this program? I believe the instructor is Hoosain Narker. I have some Martial Arts experience but dont have any other options for learning this style of Karate.

Welcome to the site berserker.
These programs aren't generally frowned upon, they are always frowned upon. You can only use them once you have found an instructor and you are attending class on a regular basis. You sound like you already searched around for a dojo, but if you tell us where you are we could maybe find one that you could have missed, as we have members here from all over the globe. If you feel uncomfortable with revealing your location to a bunch of strangers you could always pm a moderator, Im sure they'll be able to help you out just as well.

Now would be a great time to post a thread in the INTRODUCTIONS forum, telling us about yourself, so that we can give you a proper welcome http://www.kyokushin4life.com/forums/introductions/ vapor

Berserker:
Where is Ky exactly? This "Tn line" is unknown to me. As for the site you found, I expect it is the official site for Ashihara International Organisation (AIO). AIO is a shootoff from NIKO, the original organisation that Kancho Hideyuki Ashihara founded, and is led by Kaicho Hossain Narker as you say. I regret to say that you cannot learn karate simply by watching basic techniques on some site. To truly understand ido-kihon and the basic principles of sabaki and Ashihara Karate, you need a tutor to guide your way and instruct you. My mother used to practice using books back in the day, when she practiced shoto-kan and needed to keep up with class while she was at sea. However, fact is that while information on the net and books might be good to suplement your daily training, it can never substitute a teacher. Nevertheless, if there truly is no other option for you, then it is probably better than nothing. But I still feel you should try to practice another type of martial art in addition too your research on Ashihara Karate. I can also recommend the books written by Kancho Ashihara. Good luck! |

Hi Berserker,
In Kentucky you have a branch of Byakuren Karate based in Louisville. The Sensei is VERY good (Bill Weedman). You can contact them at Byakuren Karate USA. Good luck.
