Osu! Dent,
There's a DVD available each year which describes / shows things far better than me! I thought the fighting was excellent. Plenty of variety in scores and fighting styles. Particularly impressive was the Heavyweight winner - Daisaku Takeuchi. Despite being barely more than lightweight he has entered the heavyweight division for the last few years and been runner-up twice. When I asked him why he just said, "personal challenge" He wants to be the strongest - so weight classes are irrelevant to him. This year he fought through, beating Anatoly Polyakov in the final (who is no slouch) in a hard fought match, sometimes using sabaki, but sometimes just soaking it up and standing toe to toe. I was impressed by everyone! As always! Gary

Osu!
Thank you! I used to get the videos, but after 2000 they became harder to find overseas. Now that I'm back in the US, I'll be able to get one when they come out. Any idea when it'll be scheduled for release? Osu!

I was at the Sabaki Challenge also this year. Yes, the heavy weight final was great.

Polish Sabaki Challenge I'm just back from refereeing at the Polish Sabaki Challenge. This first one took the form of a team match Poland versus Germany. To see young people from these countries giving their all in hard but fair contests, and then smiling and having a great time together afterwards, summed up for me the very essence of sabaki fighting. Very inspiring. Osu!

I have a fond memory of Kancho Joko Ninomiya back in the early 70's while he was training in NY. He use to love to have us kids perform two on one self defense techniques. Fun stuff considering most of the time we did a lot of "kick and punch" He wasn't around very long, maybe only a couple of months.

Osu!
Glad you remember him well! He re-located to Denver after NY and still trains and sweats every day. Gary

hes a great teacher if he sees me struggling he will always have his son continue the class while he teaches me one on one. one time when class ended and I was on my way home I rememberd I had left my cell phone in the locker room so I went back to get it and found kancho ninomiya doing some stretching while loud metal was playing it sounded like X Japan, I was kinda surprised I wouldnt think he would be into that kind of music.

Check out the Enshin class.
Very good. He trains you hard and at full speed. There are very few students since this YMCA is kind of off the beaten path a bit. He likes it that way though since he only gets students that are there to really learn. I will probably go back next week. Its too affordable to not go.

enshin karate
hi.new forummer from singapore..anyway i'm currently training in boxing for 3 months and deciding to learn enshin karate.but when i google regarding enshin its very hard to find very detailed information regarding enshin.so i've decide to find a forum thats discuss about kyokushin and the rest..
so here are some questions that been floating in my head... 1)how similar is enshin and kyokushin?is enshin as though as kyokushin?or its "judo" technique has watered down the rough techique of enshin? 2)does enshin has any katas?if it does..does the katas is very elaborate like taekwondo bcoz i hate doing katas(sorry).. 3)last question..how will enshin do in mma?bcoz i want to try to compete in mma.. hope my questions doesnt insult enshin or any form of martial art.if it does pls 4give me. ![]() |

May I ask you age, as your questions puzzle me? 1) How similar is Enshin and Kyokushin? is Enshin as though as Kyokushin? Or its "judo" technique has watered down the rough technique of Enshin? Enshin is actually a Concept of Kancho Ninomiya, who 'fused' what he knew from Judo, Kyokushin and Ashihara Karate (Kyokushin and Ashihara he studied under Ashihara O Sensei) Enshin’s main principle is Tai Sabaki, the same as Ashihara. I suggest looking through Youtube at Ashihara Karate videos and all the Sabaki Challenge Matches to get an Idea (Note Ashihara is very similar to Enshin as Enshin is considered as an 'Offshoot' of Ashihara as Kancho got to a stage within Ashihara that he knew he needed to go in another direction - more of this available in his book). 2) Does Enshin have any katas? if it does. Does the katas is very elaborate like TaeKwonDo because I hate doing katas (sorry). All Karate have Kata, I find that Kata is the most important part of Karate. I suggest you change you focus on Kata and look at kata, especially Enshin Kata, as just a series of combinations put together to help you practice (just like shadow sparring). Kata assists muscle memory. 3) Last question. How will Enshin do in MMA? Because I want to compete in MMA. I find this last question unimportant, as it is a completely different game. The same as you would not ask how would an American Football player do in the World Rugby Series Competing in MMA is not a game; you will need to devote 7 days a week at least 6 hours a day into your training. Only the best actually make it into the big leagues the rest end up as cannon fodder for the sideshows. If I were you I would concentrate on you martial arts training first before Competing. Remember that you must have strong roots in Martial arts to survive, just like a tree needs strong roots Look at getting you Shodan Blackbelt first before anything else. I hope this answers your questions

Outcastkid - welcome to K4LI have taken your thread about Enshin, and moved it into this thread that already existed. It is best to keep them together, so all the responses and discussions stay in the same place - easier for newcomers such as yourself to find. You might find it very interesting to do a search for "Enshin" in the forum. There is quite a lot of discussion here now, especially since Gary Chamberlain joined our ranks. I have certainly learned a lot about Enshin by reading the materials here. Also, don't forget to start a thread in the introductions forum to give everyone a chance to say hi without de-railing this thread. Enjoy the forums!!! ![]() |
