Osu! Outcastkid,
Thanks for your questions: 1)how similar is enshin and kyokushin?is enshin as though as kyokushin?or its "judo" technique has watered down the rough techique of enshin? I find there are many key differences. The basics are similar, but with subtle changes here and there to make them a little smoother. The main difference is the strategy - sabaki - whereby instead of locking horns in a test of strength and spirit - you constantly try to achieve a position of advantage. 2)does enshin has any katas?if it does..does the katas is very elaborate like taekwondo bcoz i hate doing katas(sorry).. There are six kata in Enshin, one at each belt of gradually increasing complexity. Unlike some 'traditional' kata, there is no hidden bunkai, just practical combinations to practise and polish that will then help your footwork and fighting. 3)last question..how will enshin do in mma?bcoz i want to try to compete in mma.. Impossible to answer. The obvious thing to state clearly is that Enshin is a stand-up system where fighting stops if it goes to ground. I know some instructors train a lot with MMA fighters for fun, but Enshin hosts and focusses on its own Tournaments that are a massive challenge! Win that first, then try elsewhere! hope my questions doesnt insult enshin or any form of martial art.if it does pls 4give me. No insult detected or taken, but my advice is simple. If you hope to compete, you are going to have to invest a lot of time and effort into training properly, so look around and ask questions before starting. Make sure what you do is right for you, and your coach or Sensei can guide you where you hope to go. Be sure you are 100% committed to what you choose, or progress will be painfully slow. Good luck in your quest. Gary

Osu!
I spent several years in Singapore, and can tell you that the Enshin folk are friendly and welcoming. While I haven't seen them compete, I believe it is due more to the difficulties the knockdown styles have experienced with the NGB than anything else. (While all members HAVE to pay fees to the org., the org. refuses to cough up even a penny toward a national full-contact tournament. Along with their other unpleasant behavior, I find their disdain for the FC Karate groups to be worth a good kicking! )Where in Singapore are you located? (The Enshin Dojo are fairly localized.) Osu!

I remember hearing about a enshin fighter doing good in MMA. Leonard Wilson, one time champion of Rage in the Cage. Although I also seen him referred to as a kyokushin fighter -but that might be because of the tendency outsiders have to call any and all knockdown fighters "kyokushin".
But I cant find the references to it that I once did. Could you confirm him as having a enshin background?

Osu! Martin,
I can't I'm afraid - I left Kyokushin in 1998 and joined Enshin in 2000 so I'm pretty much a new boy. I've sent an email to one of the longer serving Sensei and I'll get back to you. Gary

DUE TO INJURY WE NOW HAVE TWO PLACES LEFT ON NEXT WEEKENDS COURSE WITH KANCHO NINOMIYA. FIRST TO CONTACT ME ARE IN. Quote from a previous attendee (Shotokan 5th Dan) "What I loved about Kancho was he didn't try to change my techniques; he just showed me how to apply them better" Gary

I trained in Enshin under him for several years and got my shodan and nidan under him. Of course, I could just call him myself...But it's a small world. He'll get a kick out of you telling him I said Hi. ![]() |

Great! Glad you've signed up! Enshin is a family style group, so no doubt we'll meet up in the future. Gary

Osu! Micky,
Great to hear from you. I remember your demo's and my feeble and painful attempts at push-ups on one finger! There's a few old boys here and I look forward to meeting up again - maybe at the K2 in October. Best regards, Gary

![]() Gary, Can I say thank you for an excellent Seminar on Saturday. It was excellent. The Bunkai and combinations were excellent and I should hopefully have my lungs sorted for next year. Please pass on my thanks to the guys from Enshin for yours and there hospitallity and you are all more than welcome to pop into my dojo for me to return your perfect kindness. Its amazing that although Ashihara and Enshin are so similar it is supprising that there are also so many differences. I would recommend to all if Sabaki/Ashihara/Enshin is something that interests you come to the Loughborough Seminars. ![]() Ken

Ill just jump in and answer here in case Gary doesnt come on for a while. K2 is a venue at Crawley where the BKK Open has moved to this year. Crystal Palace was closed suddenly last year 2 weeks before the British Open and as a consequence it was cancelled so they had to move venue this year. BTW I saw your world record on the push ups on a coconut at CP one year - great stuff.
