As for the strategy, try to think of "don't move backwards whatever you do."
If an attacker is coming forward, move to positions 1, 2, 3, or 4. Never straight back.

When attacking, come forward initially, but then find an opportunity to move to positions 1 or 2.

Techniques should come easier if you keep this in mind.

Let me know if you are ever around the San Diego area and we can train one on one at my dojo.

Sounds like some great advise!

You go PM about San Diego!

Well I had a great time training with Medguy in San Diego/Oceanside.

He taught me some great stuff!

I am getting close to my first Promotion test in late August.

Gotta work hard!

Since this is my first Enshin belt test anyone got any tips?

I have the Shiro no Obi kata memorized. What else should I work on before the test on August 30th?

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Osu! MilkManX

At my students first test I look for bags of enthusiasm!!

It's the old nature v nurture debate again. I know some are slow starters technically, but if that basic hunger to try isn't there I'd want to know why I should promote anyone ...

Do your best - later tests require applicants to keep fighting to the end, so at this level demonstrate your willingness to keep trying until the last moment. I'm sure your Sensei will appreciate such effort alongside your skills.

Gary

Talking

Thanks Gary!!

I plan too. I give 110% every night!

The first time I had to spar the Sempai and Sensei I kept going. I think he could tell I was gonna fall over but he asked me if I wanted to continue.

I just said .

He laughed and said okay that is enough!

just work on what you've learned from Sensei Ralph, and work on what I taught you when you visited me when it comes to your kumite. But mostly I second what Sensei Gary said--Enthusiasm!
But all in all, I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. You'll do fine

Osu!

Osu!

Keep the Kata simple and try to make it flow smoothly rather than rushing it.I was so preocupied with the kata with my first grading and forgot that it isnt just about that.Make sure your Kihon is up to scratch also.

Ous!
